    main bearings

our engines have 10 main bearings, 5 uppers and 5 lowers.

I bought a set of Glyco's and sent them to swain to get coated. I didn't open the package to inspect them before sending them to get coated, and when I got them back I noticed there are 6 bearings with the holes in them, and 4 smooth bearings.

Aren't the 5 top ones suppose to be the same, and the 5 bottom ones the same? I'll look at my old motor when I get home, but I figured I'd ask here.

I remember ETKA listing one set separate (the middle ones), so I hope that I have the right bearings.

I can't really return them not because I spent $60 getting them coated.

Getting bearings is a pain. Etka lists different colors for different clearances. I just had the crank machined to fit my 034 coated bearings.

    Re: main bearings

phew. the old one's didn't (out of my 97 & 98.5 motor), and ETKA seems to have a different recommendation for each year.. heh

I also noticed the new thrust washers I have are 4 piece vs the old ones which were two (in both the 97 and 98.5 motor too). I wonder why they changed.

    Re: main bearings

yah my bearing set from kohlsc-whatever the company name is had the same exact setup on mains and thrust washers. vdub engineers wanted extra oiling on the 4th main, not sure why. same on my 16v blocks, damn...

    Re: main bearings

I got my main and rod bearings from Calico bearings. Coated and ready to install when you buy from them. Seemed to be very well priced also.

    Re: main bearings

I thought about just ordering the Calicos but I didn't know they had rod bearings too.

    Main Bearings - $39.95 + $45 for coating
    Rod Bearings - $43.95 + $31 for coating
    I/M Bearings - $19.95 + $17 for coating
