Hey guys and gals, well my buddys 00 S4 is having problems he is car rertarted and looks to me to help him fix it. J/k in case he reads this, anyway It is not the old syncro 1,2 problem as that has already been rebuilt. Most of the time it works perfect but then 2-3 times a day lately it won't go in to any gears, Then if you let it sit for a few you here a clunk noise and then it works perfect, or sometimes if you roll it back and forth it solves the problem and lastly sometime it just fixes itself. needless to say this is a pain in the ass and I was wondering if it could be the clutch going out or the linkage thats screwed. lastly it is not the linkage at the shifter I took it all apart and everything looked normal.

Clutch slave cylinder going out? Doesn't sound like an internal issue.

    Sounds like a FW/clutch/PP issue...

Definitely sounds like a PP issue. Good luck on fixing it.

the same thing happened to me nd we thought it was the clutch but when we opened it up the clutch was fine...the problem was the flywheel....when we changed that it was fine all the gears went into place....open it up nd see if its the clutch flywheel or pressure plate it has to be one of those
