    Looking for sympathy...

Hey guys, im new to the forum, and im also new to audi, o and im also new to cars. Im 18 and got my liscense about 3 months ago, so for my birthday my dad leased me a brand new 08 A4 2.0 T s-line with the SE package in quartz grey with a black nappa leather interior. So i just got the car on friday and took it for a test drive 1 word- SICK. I fell in love with the car instantly (i didnt see it b4 then cuz my dad suprised me) so anyways sunday rolls around and i went to pick up my buddies to show off the new car, and out of nowwhere some piece of **** old man who was suppose to be wearing his glasses was trying to beat the yellow light and slammed into the front of my car at over 60mph 2 DAYS AFTER I GOT IT. I crashed the car with less than 50 miles on it and i havent slept since. Please tell me theres someone out there that has been there other than me.. But on a happier note since the damages were only 50% of the cars value they are going to fix the car, (if it was 60% the car wud be considered totaled and i would never have the same car again) the suspension was shot the front axles cracked, both front airbags deployed, hood replacement, grill replacement, the front rims cracked, electronics down, radiator busted, fuses shot, etc..etc.. i was wondering if the car will ever be the same, my dad gave it to the best bodyshop in NYC hes done celebrity work b4 and says he can fix up the car like new. Wat do you guys think? looking forward to hearing from you and learning wat Audi (and cars in general) are all about. BTW the car is a lease so if the insurance company would have declared it totaled i dont get a new one. They just cut a check to audi for the value of the car and i wud have to wait and go through the whole leasing process again, not to mention the time it would take for the insurance to actually pay audi so i could get the go ahead to lease another, AND i waited 2 months for this car to come from germany i had to special order it because they didnt have the options i wanted available, so i probably wudnt have gotten the new lease the way i wanted it on top of the fact that i wud have to wait MONTHS to finally have a car again and i really wanted it for the summer. So the fact that they could fix it and i get it back in a month is a huge RELIEF to me, and the fact the body shop is very reputable is also a plus. Thanx for the feedback guys i appreciate it.

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

Sorry but no offence i would rather have it be totaled and get a whole new car again. I hope everyone in the car was alright and the guy that ran into you is paying for everything too. If the shop knows what they are doing the car should make it out just fine. Maybe think about a DTM front bumper. or go after market. it should be cheaper then OEM. Was it a manual or auto?? Might as well get aftermarket wheels too. I hope you get it back before summer is over.

I would demand nothing less than having the car considered totaled and a brand new car to replace it. No matter how you look at it, that car is FUCKED and will most likely not be the same again.

Besides, after it gets out of the shop, it will not have new car smell. Just smell like paint!

shitty story dude, too bad it wasn't totaled so you could get a brand new one again.. who knows the problems u might have after all that work is done .. augh wouldn't want to deal with that headache...

anyway, i wish my parents could have leased me out a car at 18 ! Thats craziness. wouldn't complain if that was me though

Now being 25 , ive waiting a long time until i was able to finally afford a nice ride.

Wish u the best luck getting it fixed , and welcome to AZ

you're gonna want to make sure that frame's not tweaked, otherwise the car is junk. it'll never drive straight and it'll never hold an alignment. +1 for demanding it be declared totaled.

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

The accident part sucks but what really, really sucks is that your insurance company is screwing you over IMO. If the car doesn't even have 100 mi (still technically a new car) and the accident is 50% of the value, I'd be fighting tooth and nail to get a new car replacement.

As for the representations by the body shop, what do you think the guy is going to say when he's looking at a $20k job?...whatever it takes for you to feel better so he doesn't loose that job. I can assure you that the car will never be the same, never mind "better than new" ...it can't, it's been severly damaged and then fixed.

You may also want to think about the fact that you may have to bend over again when your lease is up since a car with a $20k claim is going to depreciate the car significantly and the lease company will likely try to make you take the hit for it. Not trying to scare you, I'm trying to help you so you can take some action immediately and try to reverse yourself out of this shitty situation. Good luck.

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

ok wiseass (TRIBE) first of all it wasnt the second time driving if you read my post u would have seen that i have my liscense for over 3mnths. second of all that "piece of shit old man" was going almost 70 miles an hour and the skid marks show that if he was in his own lane he wudve drove right passed me (one tire track was in his lane and the other was on the other side of the double yellow) so it was his fault-not mine. just because im 18 and my father decided to suprise me with a car and ur father wudnt pay for your brain surgery doesnt mean u have to hate on me.

sorry about the car man... but i agree w/ Louis J. car may look new when you get it back, but as time wears on, little things start coming up. i dunno what you plan on doing once your lease is up, but i'd plan on getting out of that car.

Damn dude the kid isn't asking you to get on your knees and suck him off. Be easy on him no matter how old you are or how you got the car anyone of us would be bummed to if the roles were reversed.

Like others have said no matter how great the body shop may be getting clipped at 60mph or more is going to really mess things up. If you could fight this I one and demand a new car do it. No matter what it will be worth it in the end.

Fight The Insurance Company To Write It Off....when The Lease Is Up You Might Be On The Hook For The Difference In What It Would Have Been Worth And What It's Now Worth. Unless Your Dad Got Gap Insurance, that Is.

Both front axles were broken, cracked wheels=bent frame
Theres no way that car will ever be the same again. And just like Louis said, the valuation of the car is going to depreciate 30-50 percent based upon the severity of this accident. You must have really bad luck for this to have happened to a car with 50 miles on it. If the old man driver went through a yellow light, it sounds like you didn't wait to see if the intersection was clearbefore proceeding on a green. I really want to give you the benefit of the doubt here, but the fact you have very little driving experience points you being somewhat careless. I think it was huge mistake for your father to give you a first like that. Some people have more money than brains.

Agree with the bulk of your post but if anything, it was a great idea for the dad to lease the kid an Audi. In a lesser car, he might not even be here today.

Jeje, I know you're in a rush now but keep in mind you'll be driving this car for years. Don't think short-term, save yourself alot of money and time/headaches by fighting for a new car

You happen to be right. I didnt check to see if the intersection was clear, BUT even if i didnt i didnt actually go yet i was inching toward the light waiting for it to turn green he was coming from the opposite direction, and usually when a light in the opposite direction is yellow it means ur light will soon be green so i was just creeping towards the light (most drivers on the road do this from what i see) and as i stated in my post if the other driver was in his lane (skid marks show he wasnt) he would have drove right past me. But either way ur right i should have anticipated, we learn from our mistakes. Thanx

    Jejeclown,

I owe you an apology. I have an 18 y/o kid, and a friend of his got killed with his new evo last year against a tree, so I get a bit itchy when I hear kids with fast cars blaming the world around them. That's no excuse for saying what I've said to you. Just take care next time.

    Again; Sorry

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

Comming from a 85' 2.8 ltr Camaro thats rated at 135hp is quite a big difference to a 200hp Audi. I would've given him an Aveo over a Audi for the first year. My parents made me drive my p.o.s. camaro for 2 years before i decided sell it and get "my" car. haha. But granted, the first few months you drive, hell the first year, is all about learning and gaining knowledge, not driving a fancy ass car, because all of us will admit, we treated our first cars like shit, got door dings, and accidents. I honestly wouldnt want an Audi as a first car, its too complicated for a first car, and too many distractions are provided in these cars. So, sorry about your car, you learn from your mistakes. Enjoy your wrecked ass Audi, it'll never be the same sorry to say. . .

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

Sorry to hear about this man. I'd go back to pops and say you want a new ride instead. This one will never be the same irregardless of what body shop has it. That frame is bent, and the front suspension was mashed to bits. It'll never drive right.

I think it's been pointed out too, but you're thinking short term instead of the big picture. A summer without a car is better than a summer driving around in a car that should've been sent to Audi Heaven.

BTW, do you have any pics of the damage?

My first car was a POS as well and it got pretty much beat up by me and other people. Simple fact is that most new drivers don't have the experience to avoid most situations. We'll never know the full circumstances of this accident, but there is a possibility that it was 100% not the OP's fault. That being said, insurance is high for new drivers for a reason. This may or not be one of those reasons, but had he had a POS car worth 2-10k, then it would have been totaled and he would have just gotten another car in a week or so. Instead, he has to wait 4 weeks or whatever and be stuck with a potentially damaged car. It's a shame.

At the same time, I've recently realized that we can't blame him for his dad giving him a new $30k+ car. I probably would have if I had the chance at that age. It's his dad that made the mistake... even then maybe his dad just wanted to show his son some love. It could be an error born of good intentions.

My issue with new drivers with new cars is when some of them act like douche bags on the road and show off their ride like they are better than someone with lets say an '01 Honda Civic. It's not even their car... it's their parents that they bought for them to use. They are not better, they are just spoiled brats. The OP so far has not come off as one.

btw the police officers and fire dept. officials said at the scene that if i was driving anything but an audi or volvo i most likely never would have had the chance to post this thread. so i could hear when u say my dad could have made a mistake, but his "mistake" could very well have saved my life.

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

First off sorry to hear about your car man. I'm from NYC too so I DEFINITELY know how bad drivers are in this city. Second, I'm glad you were in an Audi cause it probably did save your life but I must agree with some of these guys here that your dad should have something along the lines of POS than a brand new audi. My first car was a 91 Maxima and I still didn't get rid of it yet (driving Audi for 3 months). And Third, fight for the totaled and get a new car. If your frame is bent or anything then your car won't feel like new. Most people on this forum is pretty informative and is very helpful so if everyone says "totaled" then fight for it. Good luck, glad you're okay, and hope to see you around in the streets of NYC.

    Re: Looking for sympathy...

The O.P. stated that he was rolling through the line expecting it to be green in 3 sec. Yes i admit, i do it as well, but CA has taught me to not do it and look out for dumbass women on there cell phones going through a red light thats been like that for 5 seconds. These days, when it comes to living in large cities, im sorry to say, but its all about defensive driving because i sure as hell dont want my car screwed up. Gotta learn that if your in a rush, your more likely to be in an accident, of course, simple knowledge, so slow it down, be patient, enjoy your Audi, and leave a few minutes early. Have fun with the car wide open up in the mtns, and such and leave the cruising for the city. Their are plenty of Audi's out there that your dad could've purchased for 10k for you to dick around in, ding it up, have fender benders, whatever the case may be, and it be a clean lookin ride. It may not be what you wanted in the first place, but take pride in it and you will learn what its like to have luxary. My parents are wealthy, yes they could've bought me a new car, but they teached me my lessons just like my older brothers, "Your first car isnt your last. Keep this for 2 years and get whatever the hell you want afterwards" and thats exactly what i did. . . You should think about doing the same and save the Audi for the weekends or special days you want to drive it if you can afford to have one right off the bat. . .
