    summer tires!

summer is coming and i have some garbage tires. tires i am looking for need to have good wear, great grip. (looking to do some auto-x, and will be for dd'ing)

I will shoot down my list so far (no order)

    Toyo T1R
    Falken Azenis Rt615
    Bridgestone Potenza Re01r
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 - Expensive, so probably wont get them
    Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

any one have experiences with any of these? i have a friend running the GS-D3 and swears by them. I have heard the T1R is a bit better because while it has a similar tread pattern it has solid blocks on the edge of the tire for better cornering.

I have a feeling the Azenis will wear quicker as i believe it is a softer compound.

Lastly, i have a feeling the potenza and neova are going to be very similar, so i would just get the cheaper of the two (potenza)

    any tips?

    Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 FTW!
I don't run them on my s4 but on my dad's lightning. I wish I did though... My dad got about 20,000 miles on his and that was with a lot of abuse. Lots of burn outs .

I've heard that Potenza has great tires (RE050?). Do not get the Falkens (IMHO). I've had Yoko ADVAN ES100s on my RSX-S. They are extremely sticky.

I can also recommend General Exclaim UHPs, which I have. They have never lost traction in all the time I've had em.

    Re: summer tires!

The Falkens will wear out fast and seem to lose some of their grip once they heat up. I ran those on my S for a while and later switched them to my Jetta because they were wearing out too fast for my taste.

wear and grip are polar opposites. You will have to sacrifice one for the other. Why not get a cheapo set of wheels with some kuhmo 710's and put some good tread life tires on your dd wheels?

    Re: summer tires!

Emil, I am currently running the Falken RT-615 and I have to say I am impressed. My last High performance tire was the Goodyear F1 and I got about 25K out of them, towards the end of their life they got noisy but they certainly hoooked up at the track and on the street (Not so much in snow, in fact not at all). I have heard things that aren't positive about the T1-R, the F1 are good in my book but really exspensive, The RT-615's I picked up for $130 a tire 235/40/18 and they the stickest tire I've had. Potenza's are good in my book haven't been in a S4 with them yet. I always wanted to try yokohoma. Get the RT-615's they only got 200 Treadwear so if you are lucky you can get 10K out of them.
