Cracking sound over bumps...

OK, I have 20,000 miles on my car and when I go over even small bumps I hear a cracking sound almost coming from the middle of my back passenger door on the drivers side. I'm going to take the wheel off and look around but its not all the time. Any ideas? I was goinig to switch the front and back tire to see if the problem follows the tire or not, hoping something isn't wrong with my rim but kind of figuring if it was the rim the craking would be alot louder or something else would have happened by now. So after that if the sound is still there I'll be off to the stealership (under warranty) thank god but any ideas? Thanks

I have the same exact noise in the same exact location. Dealer has taken apart the interior b pillar to try and fix it with no luck. It's really F*^king annoying!

Well, I switched tires last night and the F'in noise is still there... not all the time but I feel like my frame is cracked or something. I'm going to put a different suspension on my car and figured I would have them look around then but you are correct! It is VERY annoying especially when you know its there!!!!! I'll let you know if I find anything out. Please do the same for me. Thanks!

Not sure, Its not always there and it can be when going over small bumps ( like a manhole cover) but on the highway going 75, going over a small (same kind of) bump nothing... not sure... but annoying!

I don't know if it's the same sound, but sometimes, going over a speed bump, I'll hear a cracking, or more of a creaking. I think it's the plastic components in the interior of the car shifting as the frame flexes a little going over a bump.

Yep Im a member of the same club.
Although I think its at the top of the pillars behind the front seats.
Dealer has tried several times to fix it no aveil.

And since a couple of weeks now my center armrest is creeking during cornering...

I am a member of this club as well, although I'm not sure where it's coming from in my car. Sound like it comes more from my front A-Pillar, but cars are hard to find noises in sometimes. Something could sound like it's in front of you when it's in fact behind you. Nonetheless, I'm in this club as well.

You know I have to say this club sucks! My noise I feel just started happening and I have only 20,000 miles on my car. I always felt like my car was a solid car but with some of the noises it makes...I don't know.... Well Like I said hopefully next week I will be putting on a different suspension and will be taking a closer look then so I will update this next week. Thanks

I have the same noise, mine is coming from the B-pillar. I had the same on my B5 S4. It almost sounds like my car is flexing and the door is moving. It's weird but I'm chalking it up to another "audi" issue you learn to love

OP: Are you sure this noise is coming from the exterior?

I had the A/B pillar cracking also....I was able to largely eliminate it by loosening the bolts which secure the handles above each door...give it a shot.

I have an 07' 20,000 miles and I really do not remember it making noise for the first 15,000 so..... I guess I can only have an audi for 15,000 miles then time to get a new one!!! YA RIGHT!!!!!

Seems like some of us in this thread have aftermarket stiffer suspensions. My dealer is telling me that my noise is due to the car flexing from the stiff race suspension. My car was sent up to Stasis and modded when it was new so I never drove it with the stock suspension for a reference.

How many of you guys in this thread have stock suspension and this noise?

Anyone switched to aftermarket stiffer suspension and then the noise started?

It's really annoying and I'd love to help myself and the rest of us get rid of it. It's inexcusable for a $40k German made car.

Its the flexing of the car, it started happening to me when they redid my street and made angled speedbumps.
Yes an aftermarket suspension will contribute but even after while on a stock suspension it will start making noise.

I'll try loosening the bolts.

Oh and my Recaro's are now also making noise!!! :(
