I would like to throw this out there for those thinking about lowering kits since not many here (I think I can count on one hand) have this setup.
I swapped out my stock sport suspension with the Eibach "Pro-Sytem". I put the name in quotes because Eibach doesn't really make a spring+strut kit for a Quattro A4. What I did was I bought the Pro-Kit springs for a 1.8T quattro and the Pro-Damper struts for a 1.8T FWD.
Ground to fender height with stock USP wheels and 235/40/18 tires is 25.25" all around. The stance looks just about like this
I say "just about" because the picture above had only the Pro-Kit springs with the stock struts. But after installing the Pro-Damper struts, the ride height dropped ever so slightly that you wouldn't really notice. I'd put a guesstimate of about 1/16 to 1/8 inch. No, I don't believe it will settle anymore since the Pro-Dampers do not use high pressure gas for dampening (like say... Bilstein). In fact, I can contract and extend the strut with my bare hands when they were still off the car. And also note that I have already had the Pro-Kit springs for almost a year... so those are done settling.
So how does it ride? Simply put... AMAZING. My car rides better than my buddy's A4 with stock sport suspension. You know that jarring feeling when you go over an ill-conceived manhole cover or good sized potholes and/or dips? They're gone! Yeah... this thing absorbs all of that flawlessly. Yet when you push your car around the corner, it is much more stable than the stock suspension. I believe this is because of the "progressive" rate of the springs. The more you push it, the stiffer they become.
I don't know why Eibach doesn't make struts for the quattro, but really... I don't think they need to. The FWD struts work like a charm on my car.
And the best part? The whole kit cost me less than $500. I got the springs used for $180 shipped from a user here and the struts brand new for $310 shipped from Auto Anything (<<-- best price I found anywhere on the net). Even if you buy the springs new they would only be $225 shipped.
Just another suspension setup to think about!
