FUDG I put in the wrong oil: Please ADVISE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay so i went to my local motul dealer to get my oil changed im at 36k (last change was at 32k) They asked me what grade it took and i told them I didnt know, supposedly they looked it up and told me oh its just regular 5w30 synthetic.....

So i get home and got the wild hair to "double check this." Every thing I have read on the forum says to use ow30 or 5w40!!! But then I got to my manual and it says to use 0w30 or that I can substitute with 5w30 or 5w40.

They filled her up with about 4.5L of 8100 Eco-energy Motul sae 5w30 100% synthetic.

Do I need to go get anouther oil change? Please tell me this will hold me for 5k miles.

    I dont see the problem?

The manual even says you can use 5w30....

0w30 and 5w30 oils have the same viscosity....it is just their working temperatures (what they can withstand) are different

They don't have the same viscosity. At 30°, the 5W30 oil acts like 5 weight, where the 0 is less viscous (hence 0W) at 30°. If you are in SoCal, where it is hot as right now, a 5W30 is thicker than 5W40 because it stays more viscous to a lower temp. That all being said, you're not going to do any damage using any of these oils unless you are driving the car like a raped ape all the time, then you might want a 5W-20. Fuel mileage may be marginally higher under normal driving conditions with a lighter weight oil like 5W40 because of less friction in the rotational parts.

    you're just fine!

and to make yourself feel better, you can top off with 5-40 (if you burn a little oil) I would use the same brand/line of oil to do this.

if you drive normal, then no worries at all. if you drive REALLY hard, then maybe drain out 1 liter, and put in 1 liter of 5-40 now. but honestly, my guess is that you can do at least 1-2K before this oil thins out to any degree.
