K04 Turbo - Need some advise please!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone,
Well, I'm new at this and I just got an '02 A4 1.8 Turbo Quattro (manual if that matters) and I decided upgrading to a K04 turbo. I just purchased one from a fellow AZ and I'll be getting it in a few days. Since I have not much knowledge I would like to get some advise and be educated about my options here. I thank you in advance for any information and experience shared. Ok, now I have the K04, the TIP (Neuspeed), APR injectors (the ones meant to be used for APR stage 1+ I'm assuming they are the same as the tt225) still on their way, a ceramic dp, and an aftermarket intake kit. My questions are:
    • What's the best tunning I can get? I've heard that APR is very conservative while GIAC is more aggressive, and well I haven't heard much about REVO.
    • Do I need to get any other stuff besides what I have in order to make my K04 run to its full potential?
    • What parts are actually required to run the K04 properly without damaging the car or the engine?
    • Do I really need a FMIC? or is it optional? How about a Forge DV?
    • What's the max HP this K04 can kick? how about the torque?

Please any comment related to this topic would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks everyone.

^^yes an FMIC is necessary if u want the most power! MTM has the most aggressive software, but REVO is pretty good as well, depends did u buy the Super K04 in the classifieds??? if so get MTM or REVO software! now an intake manifold should do great for a K04 setup as well as redoing ur vac/boost lines, and a testpipe would really help, as well as an exhaust!

GIAC and APR uses different injectors. I would suggest an intercooler and a clutch investment down the road.

So the APR injectors I have won't work if I decide to go with GIAC? Why is that? Do I need to get the tt225 then? About the intercooler I'm def getting another one, but in regard to the clutch can you throw me some names so I can look up for prices and availability? Thanks.

Yeah I've heard alot of things about APR being so conservative and limiting the power of the K04. About REVO I haven't really heard alot, but I'm going to do more research about it. K04 is a decent turbo at least that's what I think, all I want is torque for low rpms, cause I really don't think I'll be racing this car, it's just for fun and maybe to smoke some civic-tecs and acuraas... I've gotten some pretty good deals on the k04 as well as the TIP and the DP from a fellow AZ about $800 shipped. Well, thanks for replying if you get any updates please keep me posted.

Re: K04 Turbo - Need some advise please!!!

As far as I can remember, Revo doesn't offer a K04 program file. MTM has one, but the cost for that is the highest of the bunch. Because yours is an '02 A4, you'll want to be careful in choosing a brand. APR used to have problems with the '02 model, but supposedly was fixed about a year or so ago.

Another cooling option would be DSMIC instead of FMIC. I have DSMIC with my K04 and has done well during hot and muggy July days out on the track. A higher flowing exhaust manifold will smooth out the spikes while offering more power and toruque under the curve of the RPM range.

Definately upgrade the DV. Forge 007 w/ yellow spring will run like a champ.

I've been extremely happy with my K04 setup.

If you don't plan on going w/ a bigger turbo later I would go with the apr software. I have seen many apr flashed cars (my shop is an apr dealer) and just recently flashed my car. It is very reliable and smooth. Plus you already have the injectors.... if you wanna get a bigger turbo later you should try to get your k04 software from a company that also has the BT software you will need later to save cost. I would get a test pipe since you will be in there anyway and the difference is worth it. Apr also has a cat delete option. (other companies too)
Thats my 2cents for your software: APR or BT compatible company

REVO does have a Ko4 file, I've been using it for 3 years now. As for hardware for your setup, everone is pretty much gevin you the best advice. I would go with the tunner that is closest to you.

As for the Ko4 file from REVO, talk to Eurocode...
