Need some help!!!!!!

I pulled up to a stop sign today and was just idleing. While I was sitting there the car revved up to 3k rpms by itself! I have never heard of a car revving on its own before. Kinda freaked me out a little bit. I turned the car off and then back on and it was fine. Any idea what's goin on? I don't see how this could be part of the problem but my clutch is pretty worn out fyi. But like I said, my foot wasn't on the gas I was just sitting there. Thanks for any help guys!!!

I've only had this happen when my MAF was bad. Basically the idle dropped so low that the car revved itself out to stay on. It didn't go as high as 3k though!

throttle body alignment. You can use a VAG to do it or just unplug your ECU for a minute, plug it back in then put your key in and turn, but don't start the car. You will hear an electric winding noise. That's your throttle body aligning. After it stops you can go ahead and start your car. That's the procedure for the B5s anyway, I don't think they changed it.

Interesting. This might help my problem as well. Althought I got EPC and a CEL, but this def. happened to me.

I thought it was turn your key to the on position but dont start the engine press the gas to the floor for around 10 seconds and take your foot off the gas -- I remember this being in the easter eggs post. It might be a little different than what i just posted haha

Hmm well I already have a CEL for a misfire so I'm not sure if I got another CEL code.
