To remove the entire thing, the shifter surround has to come up. There are two screws under there that hold the entire assembly down, 8mm hex IIRC.

    Re: OMG Ashtray Madness

IIRC, I did it without removing the radio and CC. If you have trouble putting it back in, yes easier to remove the radio and CC, which is what I had to do.

To easily put it back in, take out the radio and climate control. Otherwise, you'll spend a while trying to angle it in correctly. Can be done but not without headaches if the angle is not just right.

Yeah you can loosen it w/o removing the radio and cc unit, but cannot get it all the way out. On a related note, its rather difficult to get it back into place without pulling the radio and cc, b/c the rubber that the tabs fit into become easily dislodged.

Buy the radio keys, they are cheap and will save you a massive, massive headache. Trust me.

    Re: OMG Ashtray Madness

1 - Remove the Radio with the keys removal tools.
2 - Remove the wiring and antenna wiring from the radio.
3 - Remove the Climate control by removing it from the back.
4 - Remove the wiring from the climate control.
5 - Remove the Shift handle lower cover.
6 - Remove two (2) mm bolt that hold the ashtray.
7 - Remove the light harness from the lower part on the ashtray.
    8 - Remove the ashtray.

    The reinstall in reverse order.

    Can n e 1 elaborate on this?!?

    Re: OMG Ashtray Madness

no if u take the radio/ac controls out its really easy, there are three tabs on the end of the ashtray that have to line up with three holes under the ac controls, if you take the radio/ac out you can easily see how to do it. i used to have a picture i put up showing how it went back together.

Just read your thread. Re. the difficulty removing the radio keys - just press in the tabs on the sides of the radio - they slide right out. If you try to just yank them out, it will definitely be a PITA. (learned that the hard way)

You can feel a little spring clip where each key stops while inserted - press the spring bar in, slide the key out.
