    Re: Snub Mount

I adjusted mine when the motor was hot (after about 40 minutes of driving) and it is silky smooth, no vibration when the car is warmed up and at idle, but it still vibrates like hell when the motor is cold.

I suggest you adjust it when the motor is cold. I think that perhaps the motor mounts were warm and expanded a bit when I adjusted mine. When they are cold and contracted the snub is still hitting the bottom of the lock carrier. Its annoying and I'll be fixing it soon.

How do you adjust it? Don't you have to take the bumper and everything off?
Doesn't seem like a quick process to get it on.

just unbolt the four nuts around it, then there is three allen bolts on the engine, take those off and remove the whole thing. push off your old one, put some soapy what on the new one and slam it on the floor, bolt it back up and u are done!

    Re: Snub Mount

Install and adjustment are very simple. No bumper removal. Only thing removed to access install points is belly pan.
Be sure to use some dish detergent as lube. You'll see. I think the directions are pretty easy to follow IIRC.
But it is crucial to idle the engine a few with the mount nuts hand tightened so everything falls in place.
I've had mine on for about 3 years now with no problems, and no vibrations.

    Re: Snub Mount

Yeah the instructions are really quite good and easy to follow, it should only take you 30 minutes or so to install, maybe longer if you have never had the joy of fiddling with the belly pan before. Naturally I never read the instructions when I put mine on and the vibration was quite worrying at first, I thought my car was off a tooth b/c I changed the timing belt at the same time lol. In one shot I changed the TB, plugs, coilpacks, and snub. I was just like 'wtf did i mess up to get this vibration!" It was (and still is) really, really obnoxious at idle when cold, like a massage chair in fact.

Interestingly my car had only three nuts that held the snub "cup" to the lock carrier, not four. Mine is a pretty early model B6, so I guess that is the reason. Just adjust it cold. You can even tighten everything down with the engine running, there are no moving parts that are in danger of hitting your hands if you are even a little careful.

I don't see a post listed in the DIY section for installing a snub mount...anyone have a link with instructions? On the B5's, you had to remove the front bumper...or at least I did to put it on. Sounds like it's a bit easier on these cars.

Where are some good instructions for this? I saw the instructions on the APR site and it looks like I need to remove the bumper and headlights. You guys are making it sound easy which is cool. I hope it is. Got any good DIY threads on it?

Replaces your front mount on your car and makes upshifting and downshifting better and improves driveline shock in the car. You FEEL the motor better!

    its on APRs website. www.goapr.com

Its my understanding that the snub is used to prevent the motor from moving around when under load from acceleration. The weight of the motor/trans are on the motor/trans mounts, but it is still free to vibrate/wiggle around some. The snub helps to keep this under control to prevent drivetrain movement.

HOnestly, I didnt notice much difference after I installed mine. Maybe my car doesnt ahve the BAT to make it noticable, maybe I just dont drive like a maniac. I was at WGI last weekend and was pushing the car hard and it wasn't like going from night into day.... The stock foam one looks incredibly flimsy, the APR unit is certainly much more robust and is larger... hence the vibrations if it touches the cup. Under low RPMs the engine is almost in a resonance of sorts, lots of vibration at 800rpm, again at 1200, but not at 1000. At higher rpm its moving so fast that the harmonic balancer keeps it from vibrating i guess, b/c you don't get the massive vibrations when its touching the lock carrier at higher rpms.

This is true on the B5 model, the B6 only requires you to remove the belly pan, then three 6mm allen bolts to pull of the snub mount 'frame."

There is no DIY needed, it is so incredibly simple, just read the B6 instructions on APRs website! The adjustment of the cup is the only part that can foil an easy install.

    Re: Snub Mount

When you install the APR snub on the actual mount, it makes it easier if you soak it in hot water for a few minutes. Soap it up and slam it down on the floor, it pops right into place.
