I have one in the garage that is missing hardware, and since B&M doesn't make the shifter anymore, I have an anodized paper weight.

I have one and so far no complaints. I have it on the shortest throw setting and its almost effortless when it comes to shifting though the gears. B&M FTMFW!!!!

    Re: B & M Short shifters

I drove a MK4 GTI with one and I absolutely could not get it into 2nd gear... It felt mechanical yet sloppy, not tight (Like a stock shifter perhaps with metal shifter bushings) I'd probably go with the ebay B&M knock-off seeing as how it's only $30 and wouldn't be as much of a loss if it truly sucked

Yeah once the JHM hit the market that demand for B&M went out the window. Just cant get any better then the JHM shifter since it replaces all of the parts not just the shaft.

I'm wondering how much of this is the shifter itself and how much is the way it was installed and adjusted. When I installed my Neuspeed, it took some trial and error to get it right. There has to be a good number of people out there who thought "Screw it. I can get it into every gear and that's close enough."

That being said, I wasn't satisfied with my Neuspeed because it still used the plastic ball and the whole assembly still rode on the rubber bushings. The only benefit came from the change in geometry that gives you the shorter throw. When I saw the comparison video on the JHM website, I was sold.

I had a B&M on my B5... worked great, just had a little side to side slop while in gear. The JHM looks like a better shifter though.
