How do I get the carpet off of the trunk? 2008 A4

Hi,

I have two pieces of carpet I need to remove:

1. On my trunk I need to remove the main piece of carpet (I am installing a camera). How do I get this carpet off? I see the screw on the right, how do I "unbolt" the "locked in the trunk" latch?



2. I am running some wires & will need access to the panel on the left side of the inner trunk. What do I need to unbolt to get that carpetting down on the side (to get to the wiring in the corner)?

hey rich, hope youre doing well with your new ride... just out of curiosity, are you adding the rear-view camera to work with the RNS-e navigation system?

Yes, I am using the RNS-E with the OEM audi rear view camera (of course I need to route my wiring first :)

Take out the screw you already found. Also remove the screw under the emergency release handle. I believe you have to pull it back a bit. You will also need to pop the wire off the emergency handle so you can pull the carpet away. It's just a little ball that can easily be pulled out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

The black plastic cover on the trunk latch also needs to be removed. Pry it gently from the base and it will pop off.

The trunk lid carpet liner attached to the trunk lid with several clips. They are pretty stiff and need to be pried/popped off. Grab a couple flathead screwdrivers (I wrapped the neck of each one in masking tape so I wouldn't scratch the paint from prying) and start lifting the carpet liner away from the trunk lid. If you look closely, you can see where each little clip is. Pop each one out and continue around the whole trunk lid.

This is from my experience when I changed my trunk latch. I never fully removed the carpet liner, there may be more screws on the bottom that I don't know about.

In order to get started on the trunk liner, pull the floor out (where the spare tire is), remove the spare tire. Now you will have access to the 2 bolts that hold down the plastic guard that protects the trunk/carpet when stuff is loaded into the trunk. The 2 bolts are down in the spare wheel well. When you remove them you can pull the plastic guard out and you will be able to access the carpet easier.

I have most of the top part of the trunk carpet off. I am a little stuck on that emergency "trapped in the trunk" handle.

To get it off completely, do I need to remove the black plastic part of the "RED" line in the photo? As well as the Silver end of the cable in the white plastic piece (also in RED)?

It looks like that would work but that it would be a big PIA to get the carpetted piece back on (theres not much slack).

The parts are in transit. I was just doing some prep work so I know exactly what to do.

to get the carpet liner off you are going to want to pop the cable off at the emergency handle. You should be able to pull it up and out a bit to see the cable and get at it with some needlesnose pliers.

Are you planning on taking your trunk latch off? If so, its just 2 or 3 10mm (i think) bolts and the latch slides off the studs. the cables are easier to get off when you can move the latch around a bit.

I have not put my car back together, but his photos there are just fine. I am not sure what else I could add but I would be happy to answer any questions.

It works, the IPOD with video (movies on the RNS) works, the reverse works. So far so good!
