    OEM NAV system...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, new to the forums (friend linked me to it ).

Just thought I'd get on here and ask some questions which may sound stupid, but I'm new to Audi so figured I'd ask those who will know more than me.

I just picked up an 04 A4, it didn't come with a nav system, but I would really like to get one, the aftermarket ones aren't the most thrilling and quite frankly look like crap (in my opinion ) so I've been entertaining the idea of picking up an OEM package. My local dealership quoted me around $4000 all in all to have one put in... after dunking my head in some cold water after the shell shock I decided to take a quick look at eBay to see what goodies are available there. I wasn't too surprised to find a whole bunch of OEM units up for sale for around $1100-$1300, which claim to have all necessary components to set it up and get it working.

If anyone has any experience with these I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Search on here for "RNS-E". Check the classifieds here on AZ. And check out navplus.us.

    And welcome.

Do it, you won't regret it. It's a mod you'll use every day, the MP3 / SD card player is handy and the sound is better than your Symphony radio.

I've done this twice already, you can find new and used RNS-E units all over the place - the tricky part is to find a reputable seller. The install is dead easy, I could do it for you in 5 minutes flat probably... you just need to program the car afterwards with a VAG-com

The VAG com wouldn't be a problem I don't think...and yah, not having an MP3 player is a royal pain!

Yah, those are the ones I was looking at, the price is reasonable, and a hell of a lot cheaper than the dealership (even though I would get some kind of discount).

    Thanks for the welcome

    Re: OEM NAV system...

no kidding iguidance/trapster on $30 sero phone = free
dash express with gsm/gprs modem = live updates (traffic and maps via gsm built in), searches, trapster) = $399

on board navigation is just so much less these days. they need to just throw that in with a free cell modem so you can do google/yahoo searches.

Try out a dash express or Sprint Mogul with (iguidance, telenav, whatever you can leech with trapster) and then go try the oem satnav. its light years behind(oem).

Even my new bmw had old maps i had to go torrent the new ones and they are still old like mid 2007 even though they are dated "2008" version lol. lame.
