Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

You could let some air out of the tires. Sorry I had to.

Springs or Coilovers is all I can suggest. If coilovers are in your budget, pick up some Vogtland's. I love mine, and they are extremely easy to adjust. The ride is amazing.

I think the sport suspension could drop you that much, might be able to pick it up pretty cheap from someone in here.

I believe sport suspensions gives you a 3/4th of an inch drop which is probably the closes you get to an inch without going over. The next step up would be 1.2 inches with eibach springs.

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

Lower than the factory suspension. I will probably go with the eibach for 1.2" from tire rack. I wanted something lower but not have to worry about hitting speed bumps and this is probably my "cheapest" answer. If the standard sport suspension is 1" lower than mine 1.2" will still be ok. Thanks!!

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

if you get springs you would still need to get shocks to go with it.. your shocks are gonna give out if you just put springs on oem shocks. there has been statements that oem shocks can handle eibach springs being that its only a 1.2' drop but i wouldn't risk it.

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

I guess waiting a bit for the 1" won't be too bad. Everyone is telling me to wait or replace the shocks also. I just talked to my dealer and they are telling me if I buy the parts they will install but for like 530.00 dollars!!! I was like what! That is a joke. So now I'm going to look for someone else to install that is crazy. At least I think so.....

just find some random mechanics garage for how much it is, it should be around 200 dollars to install.

This is true. I asked this question a year ago and nobody was really sure how the non-sports would hold up to the conservative Eibach Pro-kit (maybe just a couple of experiences posted). Mine lasted all but 7k miles before my ride turned to sh*t. And the advertised drop of 1.2 - 1.4 is bologny. I have a 1.75 drop. But one thing about Eibach's is that the ride is smooth and doesn't give you the impression that its 'stiff' at all.

So your telling me that my car could drop passed the 1.2"? If so I guess my best thing to do is save up for coil-overs....

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

that is correct! I was considering the same setup when I was thinking about it like 2months ago. But you're probably gonna use the same amount of cash on new spring/shocks as you would on used coilovers. And everyone told me the same thing, "if youre going to do it at all then do it right the first time."

i'd say save for the coilovers... that way u only pay one lot of labour to get them fitted, and u'll have the adjustability for future

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

I'm in a similar boat as you. I have an avant w/ non-sport suspension. I have chosen to got the used s-line spring route. The drop is conservative but enough that will make me happy and sit be comfy, also no risk of being too low. Match that up with a pair of bilstien sports and you have a nice set up. The shocks aren't cheap but the lifetime warranty is worth it (to me). Keep in mind that I don't and won't track the car. Maybe someone else can chime in but being in the Northeast and in VT I'm worried about the CO's freezing up over time and not moving.

Since it doesn't sound like you want to be slammed then that may just be a very cost effective way to go and it may be just what you want.

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

Yes, to some people lower the better but here in the NorhtEast the road suck, so with that said I would like to get that additional inch but not much more. I was considering getting the shocks and spring combo from eibach for like 600 bucks that will lower it about 1.2" but I also have heard people say that their car dropped lower than the 1.2" inches that they claim. So if I get them and drop lower I can't adjust that is why i figured on the coil-overs......It stinks.... 1000.00 or so for a lousy 1" drop... sometimes I wonder if its worth it.......

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

You basically sound like myself and after talking to many I went from dead set on Vogtland CO's to s-line coils. I know it's not the same but the more I thought about the more my priorities changed. I'd be furious to have my coil threads frozen when I want to change the ride height and I know I wouldn't be diligent about cleaning threads, lubing etc nor do I want to have to do that.

I'm an ex Jeep guy (I went to Land Cruisers) and my upper and lower control arms were all thread. I can't tell you how many times I had to torch them to move the locking nuts. This was not a manufactures flaw either, it was a function of being in the the "rust belt".

Maybe a New Englander can chime in with their experience but from what it sounds like it seems that s-line coils (2002 being the lowest year) and a good shock will be the better way to go for you. Again this is my opinion based on my rereseach. Used coils (low mile of course), a good shock and install will be less then CO's installed anyway and you'll get close to the drop you are looking for.

S-line springs from another B7? plus shocks to support it... is it possible to find that for my B7?

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

Do what I did. Scour the classifieds for a sport suspension; they're out there. Then pay a shop to swap the entire suspension(shocks/springs)/rear sway bar. It'll cost a couple hundred for the suspension and another couple for the install. Well worth it. Its a 1 inch difference, definitely noticeable in looks and handling.

Re: All I want to do is lower 1"?

Its 1 million % possible. I just did it with my avant. Stock setups show up on the classifieds once a week or so, you just need to be the first on the list. It took me a few losses befor I finally got a pair (thanks Audijuice!). My shop will install, my suspension and rear sway for $350.

You can get s-line shock spring combos for sub $400 with very low miles. Most people sell as a spring/shock combo b/c they've up graded and sometimes that includes a rear sway. Good luck and I think you've found what you are looking for

I too will be putting my OEM sport suspension on the market on Tuesday... Can't say that it is as mint as 500 miles... but they have 25k miles on them and still ride very well.

Allmine, jump on this suspension. My non-sport had 19k, my new sport has about 500 miles on it.

what if I already have the sport suspension and still want to lower my car an 1" to take away teh gap that still exists with 19" RS4 reps?

The car only has 500 miles on it, so will the stock sport suspension settle at all? It looks really high right now for being the sport suspension.
