its not leaking on the block though its running down the flange and dripping on the tranny....its definitely coming from the sensor bc the o ring isnt sealing right at all

Don't tow it to the dealer, bring it to me, we'll take care of it (and for much cheaper). The flange's do crack where the quick fittings clip in, we are actually changing out a flange on a B5 tomorrow. Thought it was a hose (which one was cracked) but the flange is cracked as well.

Look on the B6 DIY page and there is a write up on changing the flange. Took me a lil over hour but time could chance depending on your tools at hand.... Sounds like it is deff. your rear coolant fange. Part is about $20 from the dealer I think.

Just did mine a few weeks ago. Same symptoms. Took a few hours to get it out, but was much easier to put new one in.

"Rear Coolant Fange"... Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it should be the same for B5's also. But have your VIN number when you go, because the parts guy said the style changes a little depending on the year.

dripping on the transmission is exactly what it will do when the flange is leaking. Mine did the same thing, there is an o-ring that is set in a groove and there is a thin wall that holds the o-ring in place which cracked on mine so it was leaking. Others have had the actual flange crack. I bought a new flange from the VW dealer by telling them what my car was and they had them (from a Passat), it's a little cheaper than the Audi dealer.
