I have an APR stage 1 running and I'm doing no better than 24.5 miles to the gallon. What can I do to reduce that? Engine has been replaced and has about 5000 miles on it.

Well, technically, he asked what he could do to REDUCE that. I would say floor that bitch every chance you get, go BT, and ricer-rev a lot when you take off. Feather that clutch like it's made of gold.

Hey, I've seen people treat an auto like it's a manual. If you're looking for better gas mileage, normal maintenance and grandma-like driving. If you're actually looking for worse gas mileage, drive it like you stole it. Do you have an upgraded exhaust and clean air and fuel filters?

    Re: Gas mileage

I think close to 25mpg is very reasonable for that small ass turbo. The K03 is working at maximum capacity and even more when you put a flash and bigger injectors on. Its always spooling. As long as that thing is always spooling your gas mileage is going to be piss poor.

Yes, you can replace the fuel filter and clean the fuel injectors. That might help increase your gas mileage.

For what it's worth. My 1.8L and 28RS was getting upwards of 30mpg on the highway.

    Re: Gas mileage

for what you got, 25mpg is about right, that TIP tranny is what is killing you (along with the hairdryer). my 1+ gets 28-30mpg on the highway running 80mph......gotta love that sixth gear!

    Re: Gas mileage

Also, like what was said above, clean your injectors. Is it a brand new engine with only 5k miles, or was it a rebuild with previous miles on it?

I Sea Foamed my g/f 97 Grand Am GT, you're gonna think I'm crazy, but it honestly went from about 23 - 24 mpg highway to 29 - 30 mpg highway. Don't expect that to always happen, but it does help. And the smoke show is fun!

    Re: Gas mileage

It's a brand new engine, turbo and vacuum lines, with all the old accessories. I'll try the injector cleaning and the fuel filter this weekend. I was getting about 29mpg before the APR and about 27mpg before the new engine.

    Re: Gas mileage

    Just a thought...
If you had a stg 1 or 1+, would putting it in stock mode be more fuel efficient when driven conservatively than conservatively driving in the mod mode?

    Re: Gas mileage

I'd like to increase my mpg, too. I just did my fuel filter and am now back to where I think I should be (my dash display is 1-2 mpg off actual, though). I'm going to pump up my tires next to where I like them and clean my K&N filter soon.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

Did you properly brake your engine in? Here's a long shot.....perhaps the rings aren't broken in properly and you're getting blow-by which is contributing to incomplete combustion which is contributing to poor gas mileage...

Either that or the quality of the gas you use has gone down lately.

Just some random comments/thoughts I had.

Isn't 5000 miles enough time for the engine to be worn in? How would I check for blow-by, compression check?

ur lucky dude don't even complain! i have 1+ and i've done every type of maintenece possible and the best i get is 300-330 miles to the tank thats like 18-19mpg tops and i'm auto! stage 1 was a bit better though! BT or going back to stock is the only solution!

Yes, but it all depends on how the initial 500miles were handled.

Compression check will tell if your rings are broken in and sealing properly.

what should the cylinders read? wouldn't the plugs also show something?

dougyfresh has a very good point. I would definitely get a compression test. Some people claim that certain full sythentic oils will not allow the rings to seat properly, too.

Well Audi did all the work, so if it's a compression thing which I doubt, then they have to take care of it under warranty. The car was driven very calmly for the first 1000 miles.

We'll start with the fuel filter this weekend. Thanks everyone.
