    Re: Vag-Com

You can get them on eBay, but it takes some time to get it to work properly. The software provided is just a shareware version, so you wont be able to get the full usage of it...

So no issues with compatibility or anything? got a linky to that eBay cable?

On a side note: Does anybody think APR's ECU-Explorer is better and/or more capable than VAG-COM, or is this an apples to oranges comparison...? I'm trying to trouble-shoot a boost fluttering issue and would prefer not to buy both

    Thanks,

p.s. sorry for the thread jack OP!

I picked up HEX-USB for the price of a brand new KEY-USB. Gonna work great for my B5 S4, and even better when I get my A3 2.0T Quattro :D

Genuine Ross-tech interfaces unlock themselves on any laptop. The software downloaded from their site is all you need with a genuine cable. No activation codes to buy for them to be fully functional. Plug and play.

I wasn't quoting you...You don't have to buy ross-tech software, you can download it from their site along with USB drivers. Are you using an ebay cable? download version 311-2.

dude just connect to the internet when trying to install the cable. windows will find a generic driver for you from the net. works everytime with my ebay cable.

    Re: Vag-Com

I have the actual ross-tech cable...200 bones at waterfest two years ago. I run it on a mac, with bootcamp. I tried it with parallels, but the parallels program doesn't recognize new hardware through the usb port.

^Diddo. I'm already so tired of dealing with all the issue with the car, that I really didn't want to deal with software hassels too.

I was soooo nice just to be able to plug & play...

p.s. oh, and the were out of stock for the KEY-USB's, so they sent me a HEX-USB for free Ross-Tech

    Re: Vag-Com

ebay from alpha bid for $8, works well, i'll buy the ross tech software later on down the road but shareware vag-com 409 works fine for now.

I did have problems when I upgraded to Vista, but did not have one problem with XP.

    Re: Vag-Com

Apr EcuX is far superior. I have a genuine ross-tech cable with the new 805 version, works great. Don't even waste your time with the ebay stuff, buy it once and be done. I bought the alpha cable, and it was far from plug and play.
