Heat/AC sometimes yes, sometimes no?

Hi.

I have a 2000 1.8 tqm, coming up on 80k miles.

Last winter on the way home from Mendocino the car wouldn't heat properly. The next day it was o.k. No further problems for the rest of the cold weather.

Last weekend the A/C wasn't cold on the way to lunch but seemed o.k. on the way back. Not the first time it has happened but not frequent.

Is there a sensor involved that is failing? Any clues would be appreciated.

you need a vagcom what does your outside temp show when these arent working?
sounds like possibly a flap inside you hvac box sticking or a intermittent actuator.

Thanks for the suggestion. My no pixel display doesn't tell me much of anything anymore! I'll try to get a VAG-COM.
