    Does rubbing hurt your car/tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got 235/40/18 8.5 wheels and tires on my 2006 A4. I lowered with Stasis SS 25.5" in the front and 25.625" in the back (Stasis recommended "Aggressive Street" stance). The car is fine, but it will rub when the car "bounces" on a really bumpy road, or if I don't go into an elevated parking lot at 3 mph.

I know quite a bit of people on here rub, either because too low of a drop or having 19s. My question is, will rubbing affect the life/quality of the tires? My back tires seem to have a small wear line caused by the rubbing, but the front is less noticable.

Any comments would greatly be appretiated

Well it mostly hurts the quality because usually when you rub it wears off the side threading on the tire. Eventually those small wear lines will get worse, especially it you take turns hard often...

I rub just as rarely but still noticeable times as well. I'm dropped on stasis SS and slammed pretty low too, but I'm on 19's. The setup is remarkable though for being slammed and still riding like that.

    What is negative camber?

Would I be able to roll my rear fenders? I've heard about this but have no clue what rolling my fenders is? How is it done? Are there any visual differences in a rolled fender vs a non-rolled?

Re: Does rubbing hurt your car/tires?

i rub like once a mile at least. for the last 8k miles. tires look fine and aside from a little missing fender lining in the back (not noticeable at all) the car is fine too. it just looks way too damn good for me to even think about fixing. also on stasis. just dont load like 4 big dudes into your car or bad things may happen.
VW Touareg V10 TDI. Don't mess.

    Past: Stg. 2+ B7 2.0T, B6 A4 1.8T, Allroad 2.7T 6spd (<-monster), Chevys, Jeeps, and a Nissan.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you, Body kits and decals are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

Re: Does rubbing hurt your car/tires?

If you rub a lot on the rear fenders (for several seconds at a time or often enough to cause a lot of heat buildup) you can burn the paint on the rear fender and cause it to peel. This happened to my car when I had 10's in the rear and I have to get both rear quarter panels repainted now. This is the extreme though, you have to rub quite a bit for this to happen. A little but of rubbing once in awhile over big bumps isn't go to cause this to happen. If it happens enough that you start to smell burning rubber, then you should be worried.
