Help with CityLight with Fog Mod

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I want to do this mod, but in the DIY section Eddie Man didn't mention anything about the Vag-Com. But in the original post from FatAuto, he says that you have to put the ECU in ROTW mode. I don't have a Vag-Com tool, so I hoping that I really don't need it to do this mod.

Is the Vag-Com tool necessary to do this mod??

depends on your year model as to how easy or difficult it might be.

I'm guessing you are implying that I buy one? If so, I'm not gonna spend $249 just to do this mod. After my car is out of warranty, then yeah, I may purchase it.

I see what you were getting at. Looks like I would need to set the ECU to RDW mode. Thanks!!

on MY02's, it's a vag com mod to ROW, on other MY's, I believe you may have to jump some wires. I am not 100% sure, since I have an 02, and all I had to do was vag it to ROW.

yeah, basically all you do is cut the #2 wire and tap it into the #1 wire. But you have to set the ECU to RDW mode for it to work. Which sucks cause I'm not spending all that $$$ right now on a Vag-Com tool. Oh well.

You can buy the USB cable from Ebay for $15 and download the free version of the ross tech software and still do this mod. Another member of my local Audi club is who VAG'd my car to RDW for the fog light mod and this is exactly what he used.

I just received my $15 cable yesterday, but didn't have the time to download the free version to verify it works like this person said it did...but I see no reason for him to lie and am pretty confident it'll work.

If I get it working tonight, I can show you which cable I purchased and which software I downloaded...just send me an email reminder.

Re: Help with CityLight with Fog Mod

Nothing really special about the cable. It's just a USB to OBD2 cable. My understanding is there is a freeware version of the software available from rosstech, but it's not the full version so it's limited. You can still do basic changes such as recoding the different modules...but it's limited in that it's not the full diagnostic tool.

Someone with experience in this can likely chime in and give more details. All I'm saying is that if you just want to do basic changes to the control modules for something like the fog light mod...you don't need the $250 version of the software.
