Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, here it goes. I have the RNS-E installed in my Avant A4 02 and will be installing an XM sat receiver.

Since my car was never pre-wired with the SAT option, I went ahead and purchased adapter and OEM Sub style-Antenna through Kufatec as well as the Xm receiver through E-Bay...

I would like to start the installation next week and would just need some help to figure out the wiring process and panel removal. Can-H L, Power, Ground, Audio Output...

Here is the link for the adapter and Sat antenna I purchased. Has someone ever done the custom install. If so could someone please provide some helpful links?

Re: Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

Thnx guys, got my answer through Kufatec.

    Brown wire – Ground

    Red wire – steady plus

Connections (drilled wire) to the Quad-Lock connector RNS-E:

    Can HIGH (Black white) – D-PIN 9

    Can LOW (Black yellow) – D-PIN 10

You need to connect the 3 loose Audio PIN’s to the Quad-Lock connector of RNS-E as well:

    B-PIN 2 (CD Changer Ground)

B-PIN 8 (CD Changer left channel)

B-PIN 9 (CD Changer right channel)

Know just need to figure out a good source for ground/power for Satellite.

Would the kick panel be the right place to look ?

    Thnx,
    Oli

Re: Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

this might be of some help. this is not the OEM install location but is probably easier since you're not pre-wired. look at the SAT module install section.

You'll have both ground and power at your RNS-E connector. Just tap into those. The navplus forum can tell you which wires to tap.

Re: Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

Excellent thread & very helpful ! Pretty much the same concept for the RNS-E install. The only difference i see is that I will have to mount an OEM Sub-Style antenna to my roof ! I would probably have an easier time installing the Sat tuner in the trunk in order to mount the antenna.

Are you sure I can tap in the RNS-E connector for ground and power ?

    Thnx again.

Re: Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

you don't have to mount it to your roof. there are a bunch of options - roof, underneath the trunk lid, under the dash on the metal frame above the fuse panel (I have my GPS antenna there and get great reception). there are tons of threads if you search here and audiworld.

i don't know anything about the RNS-E connector but I assume it has ground and power. you can always get it from the fuse panel area. this link is for a turbo timer but i used it for the power wire identification and ground

Re: Help with DIY retrofit Satellite receiver

I guess it's little too late to back down on the roof antenna installation... I already purchased and painted the OEM SAT antenna and is now ready for installation.

Bonus will be the upgraded look and the fact the I will be able to connect both GPS and SAT. Now I just need to make sure that I don't mess up my roof !
