Re: Whats involved in the 80k mile service?

I just called, its about $230 and basically an oil change and ab unch of bullshit "checking". No thanks

While I was on the phone I asked for a timing belt job price quote. They said they do it at the 75k mile service. He said its appx $800 for the timing belt, water pump and rollers. Who knows if thats right because from what i've read on here the dealers get like $1500 and this quote was 1/2 that. I was gonan wait til I get my stimilus check and use that towards a full timing belt/water pump job. I wanted to have the timing belt, pump, tensioners, serpentine belt and thermostat replaced in one shot.

I'll ask for a quote again when I bring the car in for a coolant leak to be fixed under CPO and an inspection.

I had that water pump, timing belt, serpintine and thermostat done in one shot around 62K because the thermostat went so I figured I would change all that around at once...cost about $1500 said and done...more than half was labor

Excuse my ignorance and, well, laziness but I know absolutely zero about thermostats. Are they located in a tough enough spot they should be done with the timing belt?

EDIT: Answered my Q with this DIY: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng106.shtml

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

Im not sure about that...im not much of a mechanic...thats what my friends are for but I replaced all that because the water pump went a few miles after the thermostat went.

You'd lose that bet Parts and labor. He said the water pump isn't any extra labor. He said just the timing belt only was $400, the rest included the rollers and the pump with labor. Like I said, i'm going to ask again when the time comes to bring it in and do it.

Re: Whats involved in the 80k mile service?

My dealer just said they'd recommend doing it when I'm in for the 80k service, since there's no reason to go in at 75k and then in again 5k later. Sounds reasonable to me! I'm far away from the point though.
