Disclaimer: i spent alot of time searching archives regarding coils, ICM's etc. However my problem doesnt seem to entirely fit the mold of a BAd ICM, which is common on 98's.
For a few weeks now when i started the car there was a bit of hesitation and sputtering, but nothing a quick tap of the throttle didnt smooth out. I ran into a few light misfires at high rpm under high boost as well, but no cels, no big deal i thought, time for new plugs anyways, and i have dealt with this before.
So yesterday the problem got worse. Just cruising along, engine light on,lose power, car shuts off. Shit. Pull off the side of the road, and the dam thing wont start. Finally get it started, running horribly rough. Change out plugs in the parking lot, car smooths out a bit, light still on but not blinking. Drives fine. Here is where i think my problem deviated from the standard ICM issues. I had misfire codes on cylinder 1 and 3. Isnt the ICM usually just cylinder 2?
I clear the codes, car runs fine, but this morning still ran a bit rough for a few seconds at start up. Do ICM's fail randomly until they totally go dead? Im hard pressed to believe that it was plugs that would cause the car to just die out like that, wouldnt plugs be more of a progressive problem? Any input is greatly appreicated. thank you!
