    Possible Summer Project...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi Everyone. I am still looking for a summer project. I have a chance at buying a 2001 Audi TT 225Q Roadster for about 3750. Has a clear title. Unfortunately it was in an accident. I would like your guys' input on how the suspension works on an all wheel drive vehicle. Also, judging by the pictures what is your opinion on the car? Thanks in advance!

Thats gonna cost a pretty penny to fix. Quarter panel, new door, fender, tailight, wheel, new suspension, rear bumper, and thats not including straightening the frame etc. But im no collision expert so I would show the pics to a collision expert.

The quarter is going to be the worst part. If the bags are good that might still be a good deal depending on miles and whatever else you usually look at when buying a car. Looks like its raining though, never buy a car in the rain haha unless I'm selling mine.

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

Well, the car is worth about $12,000. Parts would run me around $1500. Plus labor and paint. How is the fuel system in these cars? That is my other concern because I see the fuel door was pushed which makes me wonder if the fuel system was touched.

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

What? $1500 for part's labor and paint. Are you doing everything yourself? The fuel system is f't up the body is tweeked the axle is jacked not inculding all the small part's haldex alone is $700-$800. I'm not flaming you I just think that # isnt right. Please correct me if I'm wrong or tell me what your secret is so if that happens to me I can get all that done for $1500

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

That's not going to be a $1500 project. I think the car is sitting in the wrecking yard for a reason. There's no way that car is ever going to have a clean CarFax again either. That's some major collision work there.
    A couple of Audi's later...

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

Parts would be about $1500, PLUS whatever labor and paint would cost. I plan on doing most of the work myself except for paint and frame. Two questions though:
    (1) How is the suspension setup on these vehicles. I have been looking for a diagram of sorts but can not find any.
    (2) Also looking for a diagram on the fuel system. Any ideas of where to look?

Car has clean title. CarFax will only show up saying it was involved in an accident but as of this date will has clean carfax history with buyback.

    Bentley manual for diagrams.

It looks like more than $1500 in parts to me as well. Labor for frame and paint, probably another $1500 at a professional shop. But even with $4000 in parts, and $2000 in labor you'll be at $10k for a not clean car. It's about evening out you see it's a hell of a lot of work for not much gain, but if you know what your doing and have a friend with a body shop then by all means take it up.

sadly, there's a lot of shit that a car can have done to it, and not show up on a carfax. for example: my intrigue was in three minor accidents, and one major, had two engines and 176k-ish on a car that showed 78k on the clock... not ONE showed up on carfax...

i can't see from the pics, but did the air bags deploy?

looks like a fun project for sure... but, just make sure that you're going to paint that bish flat black when you're all done! :D

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

Very true about CarFax. Thats actually the reason why I canceled my subscription with them. I traveled about 500 miles to test drive a VW Jetta only to find out that it was a lemon. When I got there it looked like it was submerged in a lake and then the owner tried to repair it.

However, the AirBags were not deployed. It actually looks like I might get the car for cheaper, around $2750. I have looked at a few more images and think the fuel system might be ok. Suspension I can find complete for $450 + an axle shaft if needed. Junk yards are my friends for parts.

Thats the other thing, I know where I'm at I can't get any good parts from a junkyard for any of these "fancy outie tt's" but if you can source the parts before you buy it then it be easier.

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

^ or just do a full build on the car... i mean, half the suspension's already shot so you might as well go ahead and fully upgrade everything :-) or just wait until someone's stock suspension comes up for sale on here, fourtitude, motorgeek, audigeeks, etc...

    Re: Possible Summer Project...

I agree e.Mills. I am finding some very good parts on other forums for this car for dirt cheap. Pretty much you make an offer and they will take it. I will be getting a back bumper and rear quarter panel in Lake Silver (to match the car above) for only $350 shipped, at most junk yards you would be looking at around $700 + shipping. Luckily I found someone with a complete suspension from an Audi TT they want to sell me, now I just have to haggle with pricing.

if you FULLY agreed with me you'd ditch this whole crap about lake silver and start mixing up a sick color of flat black... good luck with the build! start a build thread when you get a chance!

I will think about the Flat Black. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Lake Silver is just boring. I will find time in between my classes to start a build thread. It will be fun!

Can I ask why you want a car that was so badly damaged?

Well I use to own a Jeep. I loved to work on it. But because of gas prices I am looking for something economical. I hate Japanese made cars. So I figured a German would be nice. I figured if I bought one broken I could end up doing all the maintenance myself. I would know what is wrong with the car rather than taking it to a dealership or mechanic all the time and end up paying more money than I should on it.
