So i finally got the car running for a bit but wouldnt keep it running for the sake of vacuum hoses that were totally shot. so those are being replaced tomorrow but i heard this loud screetching noise coming from my turbo area and was wondering it my KO3 is bad?

Yeah that sounds pretty gnarly.

How long did you run the car? Could be the secondary air pump. When you are able to keep it running longer see if the noise goes away.

SAI is definitely lower pitched than that.

x2 on the low pitch of the secondary air pump, it normally sounds like a big vacuum.
but I think something is definately wrong

Fvck i was hoping the feel was that it was just the vacuum lines whistling and that it would go away tomorrow. Dont forget that i have it open after the DP and no exhaust. Lets still hope that it does go away...

Now lets just say it is a blown turbo, what turbo's could i get that would be a direct bolt on? K04? and anything else?

haha that hurt my ears, it idled like that when my maf went bad, unplug ur maf sensor and see if it idles. about the noise, there is something definitely wrong lol, sounds like turbo fins hitting, rubbing on the housing.

looong story. so this kid at college had this car sitting for 2 years. It was nearly new when he got it from his rents and then decided to trash the thing. It has great interior and what not but has that bad front fender and a bad bumper. He parked it because it would stall out on him when he would take his foot off the gas and the RPMS would get below 1000. So i decided to buy this thing and make it my car.

So i took of the bumper, head lights and found out that he ran over a curb and torn off the under plastic and the power steering cooling hose. I pulled the plugs, replaced them, replaced all the air filters, and then tomorrow im doing the fuel filter and the vacuum hoses that i found were shot today. So i have some work ahead of me and i plan on putting H&R C/o on it and 18 gunmetal flik wasps and some other stuff. but i need to first get this thing road worthy first... so thats my story. haha

i agree with poopie it sound crazy cool.. and it is not the SAI it is a way lower pitch.. i would just pull the turbo out and check for any damage!

A turbo without an exhaust sounds like that... (in the beginning) but then towards the end of the video something sounds fucked up.

idk, my exhaust stops at the cat thanks to no dp bolts and it sure as hell didn't sound like that. Either way, that thing is messed up. If you are gunna stay with the stock manifold atleast go to an elim setup.

sounds like the turbo is screaming for some oil lol, and are there any o2 sensors hooked up since you dont have an exhuast

yours is a bit loud, bit it doesn't sound like the exhaust is comepletely seperated. I was actually really surprised. haha. How are the wipers?

Kinda reminds me of my buddy's TDI Jetta. Startup makes a wierd spooling noise w/ straight exhaust. My car had an open DP & testpipe not too long ago, and it didn't sound quite like that.

I wouldn't doubt that your turbo is just short of FUBAR. Have you checked the bearings in it yet?
You can find used K03/K03S turbos for <$200 in the classified section, if that's the case.

its not your turbo... my SAI sounded EXACTLY the same. disconnect it, you'll see.

EDIT: My turbo is still fine and the noise went away... I had my dealer "fix" the SAI and it went away... really all they did was snip the leads to the SAI... needless to say I havent been back there. But actually, regardless that engine sounds REALLY rough aside from the turbine noise.. I'd tear it apart as much as possible before driving it.

what do you mean by an elim setup? this is my first turbo car... sorry im still a noob

Eliminates having to buy a new manifold. You just run a bigger turbo off your same mani fresh.

update: i replaced all the vacuum lines and in doing so broke my DV so i went to DUBWERKS in Libertyville and they gave me a new one for FREE! I then cleaned my MAF and TB and it ran a while and the screetching went away for the most part. I think i just heard the turbo spooling a bit cause the exhaust is off. but there was no more whinning like a jet engine. I keep saying this but i always end up doing something else. but i am going to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel filter and take out all the old gas and put in new.

You can't fix the SAI, just have to replace it for $100-200. My turbine noise would come and go, the SAI only turns on with cold starts, this may be why you don't hear it anymore. I only used to hear mine make that noise once a day max. first thing in the morning. You don't have to drop the gas tank fully to replace the fuel filter.
