The stupid search function won't work right now (probably my browser). Has anyone tried these, opinions?

I don't think that amber rears are legal in the US, but I would still do it in a heartbeat. Amber blinkers are so much safer than red blinkers. They really catch ones attention.

it's funny. In the VW Corrado world, everyone wants to tint the amber rear lenses to red or grey.

Of course amers are legal. Many cars have amber.

    Re: Anybody tried these?

I'm planning to do this, but I've been waiting for an answer from them for a few days now. I want to make sure the only thing involved is the wiring harness adaptor. If these require me to code for rest of the world, then I won't do it. I want to keep my front ambers.

Oops, my bad. Thanks for the correction!

    From wiki:

Presently, almost all countries outside North America require that all front, side and rear turn signals produce amber light. In North America the rear signals may be amber or red. International proponents of amber rear signals say they are more easily discernible as turn signals, and US studies in the early 1990s demonstrated improvements in the speed and accuracy of following drivers' reaction to brake lamps when the turn signals were amber rather than red. US regulators and other proponents of red rear turn signals claim there is no proven lifesaving benefit to amber signals

Yeah, that's why I was interested in them. I don't remember the actual figures, just being impressed at the time, of an insurance institute safety study showing that cars with amber rear signals were rear-ended a lot less than with plain red signals.

    Re: Anybody tried these?

All I know is that I ALWAYS use my turn signals. Ever since purchasing this car, I've noticed the cars behind me not slowing down, changing lanes, or stopping as soon as they did when I drove other cars. I have been assuming the reason for getting tailgated so much is because they don't notice my signals right away. So I'm definitely in agreement with the above mentioned studies.

Yeah, I couldn't find the study I was thinking of but did find this.

"The world's first halogen headlamp bulbs, high-performance designs known as H1 and H3, were introduced in Europe in 1962 and 1964, respectively, and quickly became standard the world over, but they were not permitted in the US until 1997. Likewise, the first two-filament high/low beam halogen headlamp bulb, another high-performance design called H4, was introduced in Europe in 1971 and immediately became the world standard, but was not legalized in the US until 1992. Other lighting-related lags attributed to cost-effectiveness regulations selectively obeyed by NHTSA are evident in US regulations; for example, virtually every country in the world has since at least the early 1970s required rear turn signals to emit amber light so they can immediately be discerned from adjacent red brake lamps. US regulations still permit rear turn signals to emit red light, citing the same cost-effectiveness regulations."

My B4 S4 has factory amber rear turns on it. I dont know why Audi went backward with this one on the B7. Its actually more for them to produce a different lens for the US since all the rest use amber. Not sure why they didnt just keep it amber for all countries.

Its assinine that the US still allows red turns on cars in this country.
