im in the same boat...ive been looking at the falken 512's b/c they have a rim saver, but the 912's are slightly better tires (they are an upgraded version of the 512's) but dont have the rim saver built in.

    Re: tire advice

First of all P6s are garbage...they one of the worst ratings and reviews falkens are nice especially the 912s thing is there heavy ...and got a threadware of of about 380 and up depending on size. with a thick layer....if you want my advice go with Nitto Neos....they have one of the best threading out there and there allseason ....there 5 star tires for 17s they prolly would run about 120 for each tire with a 10% discount at discount tires direct and free shipping. also another good tire is nexon 7000 ...thoughs tires are on the cheaper side but worth it and better then the P6's

    Re: tire advice

i'm sure with a ricer nitto neos are maybe halfway decent, pirellis however get 4 star ratings from almost any tire rating site you can find, unless your running p6 four seasons with are a little under par in the winter. if you want to nitpick about it, the p6 is designed for a NOSE HEAVY car, actually AWD nose heavy cars, do the math yourself. if you want the BEST tires, go with toyos and pay an assload. falken 512 - fuzion - sonar - crap -

    Re: tire advice

I just picked up a set of Riken Raptor ZR tires for my summer 18" rims (235/40R18). I've only had them a short period of time, but so far they live up to other reviews I've seen (there isn't many). They are definatley an improvement in dry handling/traction over my stock P6's (235/45r17) and Winter setup (Bridgestone LM-22's in 255/40r17). I haven't been able to try them out in the rain yet (but reviews were very favorable in wet weather). I got them at http://www.savontires.com for $378 shipped. They are made by Riken in conjunction with Michelin and if you have a budget, you can't beat the price and good reviews (although not many).

For other tires, I've been very happy with Nitto NT555R's or BFGoodrich G-Force Sport tires for dry/wet roads; although not on my Audi. The Nitto's I've even run in light snow/ice/slush on a RWD Mustang and was very impressed that I still had traction.
I've used several Falken and Bridgestone ponenza tires and have been LESS than impressed (as far as summer/performance tires go) for how much some of them are.

    Re: tire advice

If you're looking for mostly summer with some rain, but no winter weather, 2 of my favorite tires have always been Nitto NT555's and BFGoodrich T/A KDW 2's. I've had a couple of sets of both on different cars (not my Audi) and both have been awesome in dry and wet conditions. They both saw NC winters and I had no problems at all, and that was on ice. Couldn't tell you anything about snow.

    Re: tire advice

General Exclaim UHP's are my most favorite tires so far, im on my 2nd set and they are perfect for summer and rain conditions and to be honest they do a decent job on the snow everytime i go snowboarding. I've had them in 17 inch for my stocks and now on my summer set up 19's and i really like them.

they are priced well anywhere you go!

I found a set of used goodyear eagle f1's on ebay and they came with 9/32 tread on them. With shipping it cam to just over 400. These are awesome tires in both dry and wet. Tirerack was doing a rebate on them a month ago.

I live in the PNW and these have been great for me... awesome dry and in the rain. I used my stock Contis in the snow this past winter, even went up to the pass a few times, and had no problems in the snow... I expect these to perform 1000000x better.

    Re: tire advice

kuhmo ecsta ast..... it's a relatively cheap tire, it's all season, and has a pretty aggressive tread pattern. that's what i'm running right now. i used to run nankang ns-1 235/40-17 on my factory sport 5 spoke wheels. they are relatively cheap too! awesome in water, horrible in any kind of snow/slush since it's a summer only tire. the 235/40-17 size is an off size which makes it a lil bit cheaper, only problem is if you have a flat and need either a new tire or a replacement, they are tough to find unless u get it new they are $58 a piece from discounttirezone.com http://www.discounttirezone.com/search.asp?keyword=custom:extra_field_2=235x40x17| manufacturer.manufacturer=Nankang.

I had the KDW 2's on an 03 Sentra SpecV, they were incredible in the rain.

I had the Nitto 555 Extreme's on an 06 Mustang GT, they were damn good, too.

I like the tread pattern of the BFGoodrich better, but I liked the smooth sidewalls of the Nitto's. If it was my choice, I'd be doing the KDW 2's, if you have the money.

Get the best tire you can afford. I'd go with summer tires for best warm weather performance. Pilot Sport's are good, but you could also go with a lower priced tire from Bridgestone or Dunlop and get comparable performance. Goodyear Eagle F1s are also good.

For a good all season, it's hard to beat the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S--that tire is a great performer, and you won't sacrifice much in the summer.

Don't cheap out on tires; they are what connects you to the road.
