Did I do damage? sorry for semi-long read

Hey everyone, I got my A4 quattro 2.0T about a month ago brand new from the dealer with about 60 miles on the clock. I currently have 800 miles on the odometer. Although the car drives perfectly just like the day I brought it home with no problems Im still worried that I may have done some kind of damage by being a complete idiot and ignoring the fact that this brand new engine needs to undergo a break in process. I understand that the appropriate thing to do would be to ride easy for about 1000 miles but I seem to put the gear shift in S every chance I get and just punch the gas, and I've been doing this pretty much since I got the car. I just recently realized how amazingly stupid this is and stopped. My usual practice is to put it in S, hit anywhere from 40-60 and then switch back. Can anyone shine some light on the type of damage I may be doing. Or is it possible that maybe my engine is fine and Im worrying to much?

I would stop doing that although the break in period is almost over so I guess it doesn't really matter anymore.

I have an auto was well .. I usually let it idle then I take off but I have it in the tip mode where I can control the revs not to pass about 3.5k and no more than 5psi on the boost gauge. When it reads that its at temperature I let it rip! better safe than sorry .

I wouldn't worry about it, you weren't beating on it that badly. Just think, all of the demo cars Audi uses and the people that demo them... you know that 75% of them are flooring the brand new car up until redline, and it's not like those cars have significant damage and aren't going to last or something.

Just start driving it easily until your recommended break in period is over, and you will be totally fine.

you all have NO IDEA. I think its funny how people obsess about 'breaking in' a car. When i had my S4 delivered, it essentially came right off the truck and the next day i tracked it. I drove it hard for about the first 500 miles and a lot of that was the track. The car performed flawlessly. You guys should put more faith in the nice people who engineered and built your cars.

Re: Did I do damage? sorry for semi-long read

The most important thing to look after in the break in period is the brakes for about 300 miles. Modern engines + modern oils don't really need a lot of break in. I chipped mine with 300 miles on it and even though I didn't floor it every time, I did "test" the chip several times a day every day ;)

Back in the old days new cars had engines so tight that they had a hard time turning when cold...

Today cars come tested from the factory. Things change over the years. better oils, engines, & parts make for better more reliable car. I have not broken a car in for the past 5 years. I drive them like I would if they had 20,000 miles on them.

Re: Did I do damage? sorry for semi-long read

The reason you break it in is to get the pistons to seal and lubricate properly. If you run the car hard when it's brand new, the proper seal and lubrication may not occur and you could have big problems down the road. However..in your case, since it's an auto...I wouldn't worry about it too much.

There are also very reupatable opinons that claim the exact opposite.

Some people say that the only way to seat the rings is to drive it like you stole it.

Re: Did I do damage? sorry for semi-long read

Engines are broken in at the factory once they are assembled.
Even if you somehow manage to get a car with 0 miles on it, the engine has already been fired up, warmed, and run to redline.

Make sure you "bed" or break in your brakes for best performance.
Tires even need heating and cooling cycles to "break in", but most people are unaware of that as well and yet everything is fine.

Is 1000 miles when the break in is completed? Can you rip away after 1000 miles without fear?
