weird spooling noise coming from my turbo.

yessss i already searched but cant really find exact info...

well heres the problem.
3000 miles ago this started happening.

when im revving the noise is barely noticeable. but when im driving after about 3000rpm and when i reach over 7psi i hear a a loud ass screeching/whining noise coming from the passengers side engine bay, im guessing its the turbo. it can be heard from a distance too. when i drive with below 7psi i hear nothing. and i have no boost leaks, i spike at 21psi and holds at 18-19psi. the noise will keep screeching loud to 21psi and will stop once i let go of the gas. i checked all gaskets/clamps/bolts, also checked the fins and everything this afternoon at my shop

uhmmmm maybe some other useful info,
just did an oil change(0w40) fuel filter, plugs
did a fuel system clean
99.5 5spdFWD at almost 108k
timing belt done at 95k
ko4 pc-16 GIAC
ebay FMIC
testpipe
custom CAI


pleasseeeeeeeee if someone knows how to fix this it would help alot.

Well I was going to say turbo going bad until I saw you had a k04. If you could be more specific with the sound that would help. Sounds like the turbo is rubbing on the inside. Have you checked to make sure none of the fins are bent by something that got in there or the shaft play. Check the walls in the inside for rubbing.

How many miles on the k04? sounds like the turbo is going out

sure it's getting good oil flow? if it doesnt get enough oil i could imagine it start to rub a little..

and the ko4 has almost 6k on it.

Check the breather hose under the intake manifold.

I've had something possibly similar to your situation. When I rev the motor over 4.5k RPMs (only under load) I hear a loud whining noise. Turns out that the breather hose of the block broke and the air escaping the hose makes a loud whine noise at high RPMs.

does this only happen under load? if you rev at idle can you still hear it?

ima check out that breather hose today and see wsup.
and yes it can be heard very loud under load. when in idle i rev to 5500k and can barely hear it. so it just happened under load.
and the ko4 isnt euro-spec. its just the one from awetuning.

Yep similar to my situation. Revving the motor while in neutral does not produce this noise however, under load it's very apparent above 4k RPMs.

I don't know if this is indeed your problem, but it's at least something worth checking...I had been looking for the cause of my problem for a while, then just accidentally one day say the broken hose and figured out thats what the noise is.

hmmmm. damn.. well i checked the turbo and looks great. and i also replaced the breather hose.. but that damn noise still appears...

anyone else have any idea whats causing this?????

slightly off topic, whats a eurospec ko4?

I recon you have a split pipe somewhere thats blowing under pressure, have you done a boost leak test?

check your DV. I had the same problem but with an apr r1 dv and that "moooing" sound.

seriously what did you find? was it a cracked intercooler hose or maybe a bad turbo inlet pipe?

Did you guys ever find out what this noise was coming from, I noticed after doing the Motoza K04 software upgrade my car sounds like a supercharger is installed, but it only makes the noise when under load also when I get over 3500k if I push the gas hard. I had the car tested for any leaks, but came up clean. I also have the APR R1 DV installed "new", but my last upgrades were high flow fuel pump, new Bosch 550cc injectors, new stock bosch FPR, new fuel filter.
I don't have a boost gauge installed yet, so I'm not sure what it's boosting at. I also have a CX Racing intercooler installed.
