What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, the title says it all. I think I've found my A4 deal (will post more details later), but now I need to figure out the color. All colors will be over black interior. I live in Chicago, and we have crazy weather all year round, so that's the only thing keeping me from black on black. I don't want to be cleaning it everyday (because I'm anal, and would), so I was thinking maybe QG or IB. I like those colors too, but what do I do? I'm torn and can't decided on my own.

What color did you get...and why?

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

I didn't really have a certain color in mine when I went to inquire about buying one. I looked at a bunch of them, sat in them, test drove, and was about to buy a Ibis White A4. While I was walking back inside to strike a deal, I saw the Quartz Gray A4 sitting in the corner. What grabbed my attention was the fact that it looks like two different colors depending on the light. (silver/gray) Anyway, in short, I ended up buying the Quartz Gray because I loved the color so much. Hope it helps =)

I went with QC Metalic on my new A4 Avant. I can't have black either as my car sits outside all the time. I would have gone IB if I could have found a Ti pkg Avant, but was not to be found. The QC looks great even with a little dirt on it, but looks great when all shined up.

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

I like ibis white most, because you don't see that many white cars (let alone a nice white car) and it contrasts with black so nicely.

Black would be next, as the A4 looks very luxurious and pimppppp in black. Very mature and businessy.

I just don't really like gray that much. I don't not like it, but it doesn't really do anything for me because it's too neutral.

P.S. I wanted white really bad but settled for black. At first I hated it and decided to just buy the car and live with it, but I really grew to like it. There isn't that many curves on the car that the color hides (like on a curvy car like the TT for example) and it just looks really grown up.
    Ignorance is bliss.

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I used to park in the garage, but now kinda made that whole side into a workshop for my track bikes...so either I find a new home for them, or avoid the black I guess. QG might be my best option for this reason, since my car will also be outside 70% of the year (except during actual winter when the bikes are in storage)...and since they have a QG with my name on it...I should get that?

Any more opinions, anyone get QG and regret it?

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

my gf and I bought A4's at the same time just couple weeks ago....she looked great in white and I didn't.
A4 is one of the few cars that look good in white, but unless more stuff is added, i.e. bigger and more aggressive looking wheels, it looks a bit feminine IMO.
QG as others have described seems to have more visible multi-tones - which ever tone/shade it reflected, all looked great.
only other color I thought would suit my taste was dolphin gray.
hope this helps, but it's your car so you should find out what you like

Those are all good colors for the A4. You could do a poll. Ibis is nice and you don't see that many, black next and then grey because it is more common in all cars not just the A4.

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

well, theres alot of market research on color choices before their made into production. Common analysis states that:

gray/silver colors hides the lines of the car, and "blends" together. It looks great when contrasted with carbon fiber, but left alone, its a color that hides the lines.

Ibis White hides curves and heightens contrast. Brings more attention to trim.

Brilliant Black flaunts it all. Black shows curves, lines, trim, and contrasts any imperfection (rock chips, dirt, smears).

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

I have Brilliant Black. It looks sick when clean, but black has 2 colors.... just washed and dirty. I chose from silver, red, and black. My Acura CLS was red, so I wanted a change, silver was too close to my mom's DG A4; once I saw the black on black (esp. with aluminum interior) sitting there, I was sold.

Ibis/Titanium I've always been a fan of as well. Hell of a lot easier to keep looking clean, particularly where you are located. If you do go with Black, get a car duster asap. It helps keep it looking clean in between washes.

    Good luck with the choice!

Quartz is probably a bit more business casual than the other two. Just sit it low on some 19's and call it a day:

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

Thanks for all the insight guys. I started to get swayed towards QG, so the g/f and I went to the Audi dealer today and stared at the colors for a while. The QG is somewhat "sedany" to us...kind of reminds me of my TL (though the TL was white), and a reason I'm going with the A4 Quattro is because it's a little more nimble, and the TL seemed slightly "sedany". So I think we ruled out QG. White's not totally out, but since my last two cars were white, we're thinking it's time for change.

The g/f really like the black, and says it'll fit me well, so it looks like black might be the one. Now I need to find one with the CD Changer over the ipod. I'll keep you all updated, and thanks again for your comments and opinions.

    1. Brilliant
    2. Ibis
    3. Quartz

There's just something about black. I would've taken Ibis if one showed up before the black titanium I now own but I'm happier with black. Quarz is nice but even though it it's one of the lowest maintenance colors for the rainy Northwest, I decided against Quartz, Dolphin and Silver because EVERYONE has a silver/gray car, especially here in BC, and I just can't stand to look at another car that color...especially mine.

Yea, I'm gonna say none of the above - Dolphin Gray over all of 'em!

That being said, to not be completely useless, Quartz is hot and would be my top choice of the 3 colors, but it's too close to regular silver at times - the darker grey of Dolphin just looks a little harder/sharper to me.

    my preference

    1. ibis white
    2. brilliant black
    3. dolphin grey
    4. quartz grey

1 and 2 are helluva tough colors to keep clean, and black on black will make you go up in flames in the summer if you park outside. Ibis white with black trims (either the Ti package or DIY done right) is def. one sexy combo.

if DG is an option that'd be the color I go for. QG is very "neutral" aka blah. the color hides dirt extremely well if you want a low maintenance color. But then again I just bought QG CPO so who am I to give advice haha!

    Make a poll!

Re: What Color? Brilliant Black vs. Ibis White vs. Quartz Grey

When I was looking for a Titanium s-line, white was my first preference, beacuse I loved how it looked, and I've never had a white car. I stumbled upon a phantom black titanium s-line, basically brand new, and jumped on it because of its rarity. I liked gray too, but my VW GLI was gray and I was looking for a change. (Although, gray stays looking clean much longer than any other color!)
I still kinda wish I had found a white titanium in good condition... but black is really growing on me.
And I've found that even on hot summer days when its been in the sun all day, its not super hot, nowhere near as hot as my GLI used to be. Not sure why, but I've def. notcied this.
