    Fun times at the track last night...

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Here's a vid of a pass I made last night. I was running a very conservative base map for software because I just barely threw the water/meth kit in the car yesterday afternoon, so I didn't have time to tune it at all and I didn't want to do any damage to the car. Track is at 4000ft elevation, for more details check out the caption...

    You need a better camera man. I look forward to seeing what a tune will due to the times.

    He's at 4000 Ft. above sea level. Ambient air pressure drops .5Psi for every 1000Ft. above sea level. Less dense air equals less actual oxygen to burn and thus less HP. Yada, yada, yada.

    Re: Fun times at the track last night...

    ^^Thank you

    The track has the reputation of being the 2nd slowest track in North America for 2 reasons mainly: It's the 2nd highest (the only one higher is in Colorado), and the prep work is horrible. As you can tell, I had a hard time getting traction, and kept tweaking my launching technique because there was so much rubber at the start line that I kept spinning my wheels. My 60' were 1.8-1.9. This was the opening night for the season, we'll see how I do after a good tune and some modification to the launch.
    My highest trap was 113.

    For reference, an '07 Carrera 4S ran a 15.0, a modded 300ZX fairlady z ran a 14.5, a SC Cobra ran a 13.7, and a sprayed busa ran 11.1.

    Congrats on the times. I guess some people dont understand how much elevation can hurt you...and 4000ft is like nosebleed high lol. Consdering the elevation and the fact that you were on a conservative basemap, id say this was a really respectable time.

    op; were you seeing less than normal boost levels?
    im pretty sure you get the same boost at elevation as you would at sealevel...

    Holy Bejusus batman. Altitude or not,11.1 better have been a messed up launch, then the bike stalled out from running outta gas so he had to run grab a gas can,top up and continue his run with no pause on the timer for all the complications and not averages for a stretched and sprayed BUS.

    What's the elevation? We've got Rockymountain Raceway here that is like 4300ft. IIRC. On friday a viper ran like consistient 13.5's

    Psia = ambient air pressure.
    Psig = gauge pressure.

    Lower ambient air pressure (Psia) means less O2 concentration. Boost (Psig) should be the same since the ECU is requesting whatever the program says. Therefore Psig would not go lower than the program asks for. If it were very cold (like winter), then you could possibly see less boost since O2 concentrations are higher. However this is assuming that the N75 is controlling boost. A MBC cannot compensate for air density changes. The N75 can be regulated based on the MAF readings.

    My explination about ambient air pressure is only to relate to O2 in the ambient air and thus the lower amount of O2 to mix with fuel entering the combustion chamber.

    O2 is the oxidizer for the fuel to ignite. Less oxidizer results in less powerful combustion. Less powerful combustion results in less force against the pistons.

    I can only run about 23 psi spike and taper to ~20psi before the IAT's get too hot because the turbos are compressing the air more than normal to get that pressure at such high altitude.

    Turbos have to work harder to put out the same pressure at high altitude.

    Just for reference, in the dead of winter, I see roughly 250g/s of airflow, in the summer heat, I'm running about 230g/s. So the car typically runs more boost in the winter and less in the summer for that reason.

    Piggie and I have been cursing this high altitude and our crappy gas here. If ONLY I was in Michigan. They recently dyno'd a car at VAST in Michigan with a setup similar to mine, except that the car they used had a stock airbox, I've got full RS4 air intake components up to the y-pipe. The car was running a stock tune, only hitting 21 psi and holding that to redline. It dyno'd ~410whp. THIS IS IN MICHIGAN, much much closer to sea level than Calgary. That car might be doing 370 or so here.

    To back Jordan up on this... with my APR stage 3 I ran a 13.1 @ 111 with a 2.2...and a split F-hose on my race program

    and my Apr Stage 3+ A4 ran a 13.9 @ 103 w/ 2.0 (yeah, I suck at launching)

    Mark, were those runs done on race gas? You mentioned the race program, what fuel were you running?

    Oh ok, I was just curious because my car used to walk away from yours pretty hard when you had the torn boot and I was on a slower tune. I did these runs on pump and I would really like to see what I can run on race gas with a good tune.

    From what ive read.. 93 plus Meth would be close to a regular race gas program... and that appears to be true with those runs. Be interesting to see how they compare if I had Race and you did Meth, or when my Meth kit arrives!! hint hint...

    I'm working on it! haha

    I'd like to run race gas with the meth kit and advance the hell out of the timing...
