    I failed at life

And at installing my Forge DV today. Me and my friend worked on getting those one time use clamps off for about 2 hours before just saying screw it. Tried everything. We tried getting a flathead screw driver in where the clamp ends and prying - no go. I bought a set of tin snips and tried clipping off where the clamps stick up - nope, not enough space. I even called a local shop just to inquire about the install and the guy was cool enough to tell me that he usually just uses a dremel and saws through the part that sticks up, but I wouldn't feel 100% safe doing that and currently don't have access to a dremel. What gives? This was only supposed to be a 20-30 minute install. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to end up taking it to a shop and paying the $70 to have it installed.

Sorry, just had to rant and get it off my chest.

For reference, here's a picture of me working on it

    That truck have quattro ;)

I can't tell if this is a joke or for real. If it's for real, I feel your pain bra. Same thing happened to me. Luckily I thought of using a cutter plier type tool. Here is an example- http://www.amazon.com/Channellock-35...0968155&sr=1-2

Those are essential for this to be a 20-30 minute job. Replace with multi use clamps and it'll be even quicker next time.

I just used some wire cutters and just had some patients. However, I learned for the one time clamps just put the flat head screw driver underneath the pin and take rubber mallet and just give it a lite tap it should pop off.

    Re: I failed at life

My post was serious up until the truck picture. I just thought I should give some sort of visualization to my failure.

I think the biggest problem was both me and my friend are 6'2" and over so we both have huge hands. It was tough to get anything in there to even try and pry or clip. If it's nice out another day maybe I'll give it a second shot (since I still have my friends Rhino ramps) with a different tool or some more patience.

Yikes. So not only are your hands huge but your arms probably aren't too small either haha. Anyways, maybe I'll check a local hardware store for that tool nitelyfe posted up. As long as I could get it in there it would be cake.

Oh, something I just thought of. Is it possible that the part of the clamp that sticks up is in a different position (as in rotated one way or the other around the hose) than other people's cars and mine is just harder to get it? Just a thought.

On my B5, I was having the same issues and wound up basically peeling the one-time-use clamp apart with two pairs of needle nose pliers. Not sure if that'll work for ya... but figured it was worth mentioning. Good luck.

what u can do is stick a thin needle nose into the dome shaped hole, both ends of the plier, and pull them apart making the hose clamp expand and slide them off, or take a flat head stick it in the same spot and twist it!

Haha, after all the people saying they had it done in 15 I feel like a big idiot. This could be good though. Maybe I'll go pick up a dremel. About how much would one cost and any suggestions on brand/model?

@piz - I went to a shop in Wakefield, Marc's Foreign Car. He's a pretty good guy and like I said, since he couldn't take me today he just suggested how I should do it. $70/hour isn't too bad for a guy that specializes in Audi/Mercedes either. So far I've only got my ECU tuned by him though, so I can't really say too much about him.

    Re: I failed at life

Looks like I'm 5 minutes too late... my post was GOING to read:

Now that you've posted up your problem, go back and try again, it'll pop off on the first try. Happens to me EVERY time. I try a simple project, get extremely frustrated, post up my problems online, go back, and BAM! done.

I think it's the ranting gets rid of the frustration, and you can work with a clearer mind again.

    Also... I love my dremel!
Upgraded the motor a little, brakes a little more, and suspension a lot.

Dremel is the brand and I LOVE my 10 volt cordless. Easily top 5 tool of all time. It comes with some attachments/bits but, I recommend buying a pack of attachments too.

id hold off on the dremel , I had the same problem when I was swapping out my dv.

I bought a dremel and ended up never using it , a buddy of mine simply used a flat head screw driver and popped the clamps.

+ you don't really have alot of room down there to work with a dremel.

I originally tried to use cutters, but gave up soon and went straight for the Dremel. The screwdriver method seems to work best if you can get the right angle on them though. I just did a TIP install using the screwdriver method and it only took about an hour and a half. I do remember those DV ones being a PITA though. Good luck.
