Ultra High Perf All Season vs Summer

Looking for some advice beyond the standard tire survey response.

I need new tires for my 04 S4 Cab. I live in Canada and have winter tires but I am due for some new summer tires. When I look at Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season and compare to the Eagle F1 GS-DS, the review results are close (same is true for Yoko's ADVAN Sport and S.4.). I am tempted to go for the all seasons because they cost less and I would have a little more flexibility on when I install or remove the winter tires (would still use winter tires).

Are the performance of these tires as similar as the tirerack ratings would indicate or are the all seasons judged at a different threshold than the summer tires?

    Thanks.

The ratings and scores in our surveys are specific to each tires' category and should not be compared directly across categories. The F1 AS does not have the same level of grip as the GS D3, but only when driven fairly agressively. Unless you drive the car at the limit regularly, the all season tires will be a better choice.

Re: Ultra High Perf All Season vs Summer

I have the same car (2005 S4 Cab) and I live in CT. My OE Contisport2s are done after only 18k miles and I hate them. I was going to replace them with Pilot Spot A/S which I had on my B5 S4 and loved everything about them.

    - what are your thoughts on these tires?

    - what else is comparable?

    - if I have a FS spare and it has an unused Contisport2 on it, should I buy 4 new tires and use the Conti for my spare or should I buy 5 tires so they match?

    thanks Doc

I have the F1 AS UHP and love them, they do 90% of what my summer tires did and are so much better in the rain. I have no regrets.

Is it true that they are a bit noisy?

I don't find them noisy at all on my car. perhaps the persons who find them noisy have bad alignments or inqdequate pressure in their tires. Mayeb they get noisy later when tread gets low.... MY buddy had the f1 GDS3 adn they were noisier IMO
