    Track project striped S4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my car right now is a DD and I'm pretty sure the turbos are going as they are much more audible. I'm in the market for a new car and was playing with the idea of completely stripping the S4 (interior, sound deadening, CF bits, ect) and going stage 3. Has this ever been done? A quick search concluded nothing. I was wondering along with a CF hood, trunk, and fenders if there was a CF roof made for our cars. I know some BMWs have em. Also I was playing with the idea of getting a built RS4 motor using k03's for quick spool up. A guy at blown euroz did that and said he was pushing ~470awhp. What would be your guys suggestion for power? k04s? 2.8l? 3.0l? gt? Also what about ICs? I heard SMIC were better for track use and FMIC was better for drag. Oh and for clarification I'm talking about an actual track, like VIR and Pocono. Not a drag strip like e-town. I think a fully stripped S4 with roll cage and some recaros would be pretty mean. Thanks.

You would need to speak to Marc "10SecS4" about that, too bad he's banned from AZ though :(. I think its 10.76 which is his best time on a plain k04 car with MASSIVE weight reductions. But it was for the strip not tracks like you mentioned. I would imagine a car just like his with some sick suspension and breaks would be great.

If it were my car and I were to do this..

Id strip it, ko4 hybrids, rods, extend the rev limiter, massive bbk, super light weight wheels (17's), Cf hood, stasis built trans, really nice clutch, lightened drive shaft, motor mounts, trans mounts, rear end mounts, and the obvious mods..

upgrade the radiator, ASP FMIC, or ER smic's, take out the abs and traction control systems, ac, power steering, take out the ac condensor, and other things.. theirs ALOT that can be done.. email marc, he can really give you a good set up and recommendations..

    [email protected]

He also has a very nice stg III setup for a fraction of the cost

Cool. Thanks for your input . I'll drop him an email and discuss what to do. Now this won't be that soon, but I'm hoping I could start this within a year. Just going to get the shopping list together and find the best places with the best parts so when the time comes it'll just fall together nicely (hopefully). Oh and I need to build up some bank too.

Yea it's def been done before. Bill Miller a Local guy that runs Carlisle Event's owns two, one Imola and one silver. The Imola car runs world challenge races and hill climbs. I'm not sure of what events he uses the silver one for. http://www.audibmw.com/news.php

    Re: Track project striped S4?

I plan on doing the same, eventually. Only, I'll most likely leave the interior, aside from aftermarket seats and maybe a roll bar. But I plan on PJK04's, running the piss outta them untill the motor gives up the ghost, then rebuilding it into a 3.0L monster.

And if you wanna turn it into a "track car" not a drag car, then Stasis center diff and the rear LSD should also be on your list.

And I think SMIC's would indeed be better then a FMIC for track days. I would think FMIC's would block much needed air flow into the radiator to prevent overheating. But, then again, alot of guys run FMIC's on track days...EVO's STI's...

    Re: Track project striped S4?

There are a few dozen cars like that, including mine. Some belong to race teams, some to club racers and some are used mainly for HPDE and TT. Guys like Don or Pat come to mind. Although Don now concentrates on Porsche racing, I believe he still has some S4 involvement. Look up Don Istook and Pat-SoCal on AW. I believe Pat now lives in NY so you might cross path at the track.

Properly prepped S4 is a lot of fun, but be warn, building it will cost major $$$$$, time, headaches and heartaches. Do not take this a wrong way, but from your post I get a feel you are new to this sport. If that is correct, than I highly recommend buying a cheap (under $5K) capable car and learning to drive. Good luck.

depending on how hard of a driver your are on the track.. You may want to look into Gt's as well.

I dont know what tracks exactly you go to, but any open, relatively High speed track.. Gts would be your likely set up.

3.0 with 25r's, and reduced weight.... you would own.

Yeah that car is a beast. Stand alone fueling, ko4's, gutted and who knows what else. He will have that car the silver s4, and his vintage audi he races as well at the Import show this weekend. Just to add I just saw a white r8 leaving the show I'm in love

im being 100% serious. Aside what you and others may believe.. I do think that some situation's are more then ideal for GT's. In his situation he would be a perfect consumer for a GT kit, and on a highspeed road course, with alot of constant period of wide open throttle the GT would dominate

    Re: Track project striped S4?

This car started out as a plain jane street car. It is now other than the Champion S4's the fastest S4 in the country on a track. It is a PJ KO4 car and won NASA Nationals last year at MidOhio. If you properly build a track car from an S4 you don't need any turbos bigger than KO4's. For reference the Champion Speed Vision GT S4 only had 420hp, the new BMW ALMS M3 that will start competing in 2009 only has 485hp. You do not need any more power than KO4's kick out. At that point you will need to learn how to squeeze every last 1/10th second out a lap before you need more power. Your power:weight ratio will be fine.

The before with minor track goodies.

The after with everything including dipping the chassis.
