my first post! which short shifter and wheel spacers should I buy?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an 07 RS4 which I am keeping stock except for a SS and wheel spacers.

Well, I am back to Audis after I went to the darkside and bought an M3 in 2004, which was a great car I have to say. My car previous to that was a 2001 A4 with PES T28 and all kinds of mods. I just bought a 2007 RS4 and I am very happy to be back on the quattro bandwagon. They are just much less flashy and cooler in general.

JHM 40% reduction for the SS

Wheel Spacers, just go wih the MTM's. They are $155 and come with bolts and you won't have any issues with getting the wrong part # as many of use have had.

H&R's web site confuses many vendors and when you go to order your spacers, they dial in your car see these part numbers and don't look at the footnotes. The RS4 needs the spacers under footnote #24. The other spacers listed there are too small in O.D. and will cause vibration problems.

Here is the kicker, the shop gets you spacers and tosses them on the car. You drive away then realize that you got the wrong spacers. You can't return them because once the spacers are mounted, they are non returnable. You now have fight on your hands with the shop. In addition, although H&R's spacers are cheaper, they don't come with the bolts so add another $4 per bolt x 20 is another $80 or $40 per set which brings the price of the H&R's to about $135.

    Hope this helps!

BTW, just spacers and a short shifter, i don't think so!

    Welcome to Audizine!

thanks a lot. As far as mods for the RS4, there doesn't seem to be that much available out there that really excites me. i like the factory exhaust note and ride height, i dont want internal engine mods for resale, im not going to turbocharge or supercharge, the brakes are already insane (except the dust sucks), and software doesn't do much. am i missing something?

You're gonna want to lower it after you put the spacers on it. I am currently stock but not for long.

I don't want to lower it. My A4 was lowered on Koni Coilovers with APR exhaust and my M3 was slammed on H&R Coilovers with Eisenmann 83mm Race exhaust...been there done that.

I need the ride quality because I am in the car literally 25,000 miles/year. I work out of town so I make a commute that is 230 miles to Miami every Tuesday and I drive back home on Friday then spend the weekend at home. That makes 560 miles/week not including the driving I do around town and on the weekends. A lowered car with a loud exhaust is not going to be comfortable for this use.

Wheels, spacers, shortshift, and some different pads that shed less dust is what im going to do.

I realize this and said the same thing when I got my RS4. More power to you for being able to refrain from modding. Now post up some pics!

ok. here are some pics. will the spacers look goofy with no lowering? which depth of spacers should i buy? 10mm?

here is my previous M3 vert...sad to see it sold, it was a really great car and very fun to drive.

before the M3, I had a 2001 A4 quattro dropped on Koni Coilover with PES T28 turbo kit. I loved that car the most...great on AutoX.

here is my pride and joy. 1964 VW bus that i had fully restored with a 1500 cc engine...

    and here is my gf...

    i wish.

Wheres the place your buying your MTM spacers from? How big should I go for my S4??? 10mm?? thanks.

I'll have to assume spacers are for cosmetic reasons only. The first and most important mod on the RS4 is suspension. Out of the box it really doesn't handle well IMO. StasisMS is fabulous and will allow you to dial in exactly the ride quality you want and you will have awesome performance, not to mention much improved appearance. Spacers won't be noticeable without the drop, so i wouldn't do that first. But then again, the MS suspension is pricey and hence not for everyone. I wouldn't drive an RS4 without it now.
p.s. still looking for some more spacer pics RAudi, can you throw some more up if you got em. I'm still on the fence with the spacers, just don't want any rubbing.

Here is a pic of KW V3 Suspension and 10MM H+R Spacers
IMHO you need to lower this car, it sits very high from the factory and the DRC suspension is crap.

Here is a pic of the car rolling... looks really wide with the spacers

FYI, im running these spacers on my KW suspension at the lowest setting... I was getting a slight rub in the rear with the OEM PS2's

I had an alignment shop max out the negative camber in the rear and im fine now... with 5 people in the car it wont rub.

BTW maxing out the rear camber was only like .2 of a degree, looks like OEM specs are very close to the max as is
