Help me out with Tiptronic BT build please.

Yeah i know tiptronic sucks but it is what I've got.

I want more to go fast without mad lag.

Eurocode came back at $5300~ for the kit. Looked very nice esp the intercooler.

But whose dont some tiptronic luv power before and is REVO the best?


If possible i'd like to knock it out at once and being an mid-2002 model (10/2001 build date) i know theres some changes in the TIP (not the tranny tip).

So help me out with what works, The REVO software seems the best for making changes. I prefer not to use a MBC/EBC but to let the internal wastegate work:

Which turbo will give me pull (at least no drop in power until shift which is about 6850rpm it seems, almost 7000 in tip mode if its 1st gear). Seems like the rev limiter lets you overrev for a split second :) but 6500 would be nice. Could shave a few bucks off for 6200rpm of power. If its about +100whp more than stock. Don't care about the huge torque spike.

What other components might I have to need that may not be included.

I was thinking cat-delete and fmic.

Honestly i'm not looking for balls out but i think the K04 would let me down on top end. I hate the fact that when i step on it; the car downshifts past the power band.

Or tell me i'm retarded to mod a 104K car.

Go for a GTRS with the REVO stg 3 software, it can be used with the stock N75 valve, manifold, cat nad exhaust if you want. You'll need injectors and extra cooling. Since you're in Atlanta, go for a front mount since the DSMIC's may have gone up in price. A stock tip (turbo inlet pipe) will work also but the extreme tip works better, also get the SPS3 nad copper plugs. These are the minimum mods needed for a DD TIP car. You can also find all this used and save a wad of cash.

Also, this setup will pull all the way to redline and I don't think the tranny will let you rev past redline.

hay 9744RR hows that turbo setup you got? hows the driving in S or D does it still hunt alot of gears? what about on the freeway right under 78mph will it downshift or will it just pull and spool in tip mode?

Any tips on what used parts I should look for and (not look for). I know the 2002 had a different TIP.

I would like to add +100whp you think thats just hardcore for the motor? i don't care about the torque spike i am more interested in pressing the gas downshifting and actually moving now sitting at 5200rpm like a hyundai going weeeeeeeeeeeeee until it shifts at 6800rpm.

btw since i recoded my tip i notice the 1st gear launch in tip will hold at 7000rpm seemed high maybe thats what APR coded it feels like a hard limit at 7000 that pushes you back to 6800 after a very short bit of time. doesn't get that high in other gears in tip mode. could be momentum.

is that GTRS eliminator the best turbo for me? I am not going for hardcore power but improved driveability. If the drive-ability sucks i dunno then.

RLB6 has a 2871R setup and has nearly 380HP and 350trq at the crank! and if ur 2002 model GIAC has a Tip chip only for 2002!

I just read it again, and I think he's talking about a difference in the Turbo Inlet.

Yea, I've heard from multiple sources that no tiptronic chip exists on the B6s . Late spool-up is my primary concern. When I drive in tip mode I normally don't let it go past 5k, although maybe my driving habits will change if I do GTRS.

Are you sure it's for the B6? It's possible that the chip you are referring to is actually for the 2001.5 B5. I've checked w/ my local GIAC shop (Jeremy@Matrix) and he informed me that no such chip exists.

People like you are the sole reason why others have any faith/rumors in a tip chip for our cars. Because you talk out of your ass, and mislead everyone that there is one...but in reality theres none to be found. So do some more research before you start believing what others just tell you.

There is no tip chip available for our cars. At least not as mass produced flash from GIAC/APR/REVO.

For DD the lever stays in hte "S"mode. The tranny is somewhat smart, it can adjust to your throttle imputs, speed,load, etc...

I never had a problem with gear hunting from stage 1 to stage 3. Whenever we take the car out on the highway to upstate NY, my average speed is from 75 to 90 MPH with the gear lever in "S" the whole time and there's no gear hunting, the turbo spools nicely anytime load is put on the engine.

As for the GTRS being the best turbo for you? It depends. Is it better than a moded k03/k04? Yes, but this is just my opinion. If you like a big spike downlow and no top end, the k03/k04 turbo is for you. If you want a nice midrange and good topend, then go GTRS. The GTRS isn't that big of a turbo, so you shouldn't really worry toomuch about turbo lag, if fact I don't consider the GTRS a BT at all, for me its more of a "medium sized" turbo.

As for DD, my wifes likes it because its smooth and tame on the low/mid, I like it because all you have to do is mash the pedal and the car flys.

My recommendation - go for the GTRS.

I think for the 2002 tip there's a nipple missing. If you buy an aftermarket tip lke Neuspeed, all you have to do is plug it (someone chime in if I'm wrong). As for 100 + hp on the motor, the 1.8T can handle it, CP, hoses etc. may not be able to handle it.

by the way i contacted Wicked Motorsports when i was getting chipped 6 months ago and asked about the tip chip, and they said they'll do it, i might try though!

UPDATE:

So apparently this thing does exist. HOWEVER, it is only valid for a certain range of TCUs, which you need a VAGCOM to look up. Furthermore, the chip is solder-on only, meaning the TCU must be removed and mailed in to GIAC. The chip costs $450, GIAC charges $100 for soldering, and overnight shipping will probably be no more than $50. I don't think they will send you the chip by itself, so you're looking at close to $600. I was told that it wouldn't affect D/S modes a whole lot, but it will make upshifting/downshifting in tip mode faster and crisper.

I wish it were that simple too but unfortunately I don't think it is. The Porsche 911TT also uses a Tiptronic transmission but it's probably in a different league than our trannys. The 2.7T is a different motor, so I'm sure the tranny they have has also been designed accordingly.

Long story short, I think I'm just gonna get the GTRS kit w/ a Unitronic tune and call it a day. Set it and forget it!

yeh i couldn't get those frenchies on the phone at uni. i was going to buy unitronics and some 550's from scottydubs (aim) that guy from USRT he's a cool dude. known him for a long time. He definitely was on the unitronics side. Definitely most knowledgable guy on injectors.

Yea, a new shop opened up near me that sells Unitronic, and they say they specialize in BT tuning. There are no REVO dealers near me, otherwise I'd probably just spring for that kit from Eurocode, which is actually a pretty decent deal.

Btw, going 550cc vs. 440cc on the injectors, will that just produce more power? I was going to go w/ the 440cc ones...

I have an '02 BUT my part number doesn't match. GIAC has a tip chip for TCU's that have the part number 8E0927156A.

My TCU part number is 8E0927156P

That sucks.

BTW, to find out your TCU part number, you'll need VAGCOM. Just go to Module 02 [Auto Trans] and you'll see it load up in the top left hand corner.

the 550 have superior angle and twin split spray over the 430's ; the old bosch lime green ones just has a conical spray meant well for ford lightning's.

its mostly just cold start 80%, idle 10%, and efficiency (not pooling) 10%

i mean people are quite happy with it. Being a tuner myself i find little things like surging idles to be extremely painful.

i will end this thread now - went to order a coupe 135i and they sold me a very nice 335i for pretty much the same price with some crazy iDrive and satnav and bunch of other stuff already in it. I'm a geek; anything with so many menu's and functions thats running DME8.0 (unlike 8.1 which is designed to seek out modders). Well the 335i drives like my old 330ci coupe and makes the audi's tranny smoke pole. And this sedan pretty much does succeed in replacing the A4 in all aspects (rather than a midget coupe with a childseat in it).

expensive yes; but free service,free tires;pads;oil;on-star; i well decided the risk to a 104K mile audi was no going to be the best choice and perhaps the twin turbo 6 and a chip will satisfy my need for speed. (as is stock it is stupid fast zero lag).

Thanks for the help. I plan to keep the audi. Just the expenses in the last year and actual downtime do not bode well with wife/baby. The cost was nearly identical for maintenance and due to my neck c-spine injury sport seats really do matter.

You need to experience a BT auto A4 before you say that. I've been on mine for over a year. I have yet to even change brake pads yet. Only thing I've done is put on better components. Previous components worked just fine but I wanted to get more out of it. Even my ATP manifold has yet to crack.

Besides, my next door neighbor who owns a 335i has been made a believer in my A4 as he still continues to this day to see my tail lights. When he goes and get's his chipped and seeks a better exhaust is when I go get my valve body/TC upgrade and he will still continue to see my tail lights. Oh, and I would have still spent less money that he did
