Too close for comfort? (updated pictures)

    What do you think?

Using a feeler gauge there is only 0.50mm of clearance there.

Used a 0.56mm feeler and it brushes the spoke.

Update: I'm having my friend CNC a custom set of 2mm 5x112 spacers to help the spoke clear the caliper.

the only thing that is too close is if it is hitting.... its not like you are expecting the wheels to flex or anything, so i would think if it clears, it clears... done deal

    Re: Too close for comfort?

The only thing I worry about is a pot hole or some other impact thats unavoidable and causes the rim to bend and take out the caliper at the same time, but it doesnt really matter. as long as your careful.

How worn are your pads Winston? It's very possibly that the next time you change pads, the new pads will push the caliper out enough to contact the wheel.

The tape is there to protect the caliper from being scratched

That is what I would like to believe too. If I had enough room to slide a penny in there I'd leave it alone.

What rims are those now Winston ?
You just worry about your other problems before you blame me for having you spend more money.

How worn are your pads Winston? It's very possibly that the next time you change pads, the new pads will push the caliper out enough to contact the wheel.
Pad thickness is not an issue I am worried about as I have fixed bridge calipers.

does your cell have a .5 mexapixel camera damn that pic sucks!
It's from my new Nokia E51 with 2MP non autofocus camera. The camera does really suck on that phone, probably the worst I've seen as my old clunky Treo 650 took better pics.

Heres a better shot from a distance of my other goodies

    Re: Too close for comfort?

I'm going to refit the wheel and uses a feeler gauge to see how much of a gap I have then have a custom spacer cut to give me 2.0mm of clearance between the caliper and the spoke and I'll update the thread with better pictures then too.

I just don't like the idea spacing the wheel out farther than I have to.

    Re: Too close for comfort?

That is about how much clearance I have (2mm) with my 370mm Alcons. DO NOT EVER let anyone else change your wheels, the tire shop scratched both of my calipers.

    Re: Too close for comfort?

I will probbaly need to post up a pic for saying this....but

I swear it seems as though my brakes have less clearance than that with the wheel setup I have.

Its been riding great,no problems...and yea, lol, I would not want a penny to get stuck in there!

    Re: Too close for comfort?

I retested the wheel and there was only 0.5mm of gap so not very safe at all.

Going to have a custom 2mm spacer made and that should give me enough clearance to avoid disaster if I ever go to the track with this setup.

Hey Winston, you know that ECS Tuning sells 2MM spacers. I am going to get a set myself when I do my brakes.

Thanks for the info but I would rather drive my Avant off a cliff before I purchase anything from ECS.

    LOL.

That is damn close to the caliper, good choice on the spacers.
