    TEIN Coilover question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im in the middle of installing my coilovers, and when I go to put the strut cap on the TEIN's I realize that there is nothing to hold the shaft, and i think i need to buy a new bolt. But the shaft on the stock shockers have a 6mm allen to hold it. How do you hold the teins?

oh snap, I wish you were doing this next week, I would be able to help you. What do you mean exactly? When you're putting on the top bolt the shaft is spinning when you're torquing it down?

yea it spins. I dont see why they dont just keep the allen head on the top like the stockers. Where are you in RI?

Wakefield. What I did for my coils was have a second person get a pair of pilers and hold the shaft while you torque down the bolt. Where in ri are you?

Just make sure you do not damage the shaft. The seals for the damper ride on that surface. If at all possible, use your pliers at the highest point. This way even the tiniest imperfection in the shaft from the pliers will be ther furthest away fromt he damper seals

Yeah, I agree. It would be easiest with an extra set of hands.

    Re: TEIN Coilover question

I've used a pair of "Vise-Grip'" numerous times to do it. I've never done it on a set of coilovers, but I imagine the process is the same. Minus the fact that in the dealership we could just hide the damage behind the bump stops that are over the struts and foget about it.

i guess tein didnt thinks certain things out. Im NOT saying they have bad products, but that just doesnt seem right to me. H&R's have the allen head too.

I have h&r ultralows. I've installed mine, stasis, kws, and konis and every time we've used the plier/vice grip method.

    Re: TEIN Coilover question

Use a power tool.... a vice grip can mess up the shaft....
