RS6 Owners, About to buy an RS6, Few Questions...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, so I currently have an 02 A4 1.8T, slightly modded (GIAC 1+, Turbo-back exhast, etc.) Anyways, its time to move on to bigger and more powerful things... I'm about to purchase an RS6 and am currently looking for the one thats right for me. Does anyone have any feedback on any problems that occur around certain millages? (i.e. the A4's usually need new timing belts, etc. around 60-80k on the clock) I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for in particular. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

STFA, many threads on this. My boss has one, some of the maintenace that he has told me scared me off of them...ended up with a S6.

Timing Belt has to be done every 35K miles..dealer is $2400 (Indy would be cheaper)
He had to replace a bad O2 sensor, and they had to pull motor to get to it. $2000, mainly for labor. Some say you can drop he downpipes and get to them a different way. The brakes are ridiculously expensive...basiclly, you have to pay to play..and my boss' car is chipped and has downpipes and exhaust, very quick, and plush at the same time.

Get a quote on your insurance...I have a clean record, and that with the maintenance costs, i passed.

Wish you well, and do post pics if you pull the trigger.

Yeah, put away about $2000 a month for maintenace, i have a 2.7T and i put almost $1500 a month away for that, and an RS6 has twice the HP, just don't abuse it.

It appears as though the OP is stateside, so one would assume the only year that they were brought and available stateside.......2003.

get an Audi pure extended warranty from an Audi dealership. $1500/mo?? I would be so embarrassed to spend that much. I think $12,000 on my A6 after 4 years 60,000mi was way too much. You could lease a new S6 for that kind of money. The RS6 is one of a kind.

i never said i spend that much, i said i try to put away $1500 a month for when somthing really bad happens, lets face it, A6's S4's RS6's all break more than your average A4. Its only a matter of time, and since i had the car, i have done the 75K service, alternator, brakes, windsield fluid bottle, and a few more little things, all audi's are great (when they are running).

And like i have said before, if your going to sit around and worry about maintenace price, and paying alot, then you shouldn't have bought and audi, and you deff shouldn't be buying an RS6. just my 2 cents

^^^^^ x2. A great resource with many original owners and second hand owners. Any question you have can be answered there.

I'm one of the few, the proud.........

Ive had mine for about a year and half now and have accumulated 30,000 trouble free miles (knock on wood) during my ownership for a total of 60,000 miles. I would definitley put some money aside, tires, brakes, etc. The tranny and the suspension (DRC) seem to be the weak links. Ive had mine "chipped" for almost the entire 30,000 and no problemo. They have really come down in price, but will still cost to maintain. I am CPO'd till Aug '09 and probably won't keep it after that. Its a fun, heavy car that reaches highway speeds quite effortlessly. I bought it for roadtrips (mostly in winter) and for its rarity. If you dont like tiptronic and you dont like not "standing out" in a crowd it might not be for you. But if you would like to own a rare piece of history, fly under the radar, feel things you didnt think a 4000#+ car could do and get about 16 MPG highway. Go for IT!

Would I do it all over again, Hell Yeah!

    Good luck with you decision

I love my 2.7t, but even this thing is a PITA for maintenance. I can only imagine throwing bigger turbos w/ 2 more cilinders...

Re: RS6 Owners, About to buy an RS6, Few Questions...

We used to have an rs6, so I have a little input about what it was like to maintain. We got it new and my dad put tons of miles on it (23k a year) so obviously the maintenance costs began to rack up after warranty expired. Like others have stated, the brakes are a fortune, services are expensive, and it drinks as much gas as about 3 honda civics. That being said, it is truly a special car. It is a blast to drive and is rediculously fast. If you can afford to keep it running, I would say buy it! You will not regret your decision.
