Boost Oscillation @WOT after APR chip w/TIP Tranny??

I bought the 91,93,100 oct APR chip and love it! I've noticed that almost all the time name when going WOT in 3rd-6th gears the boost will oscillate (fluctuate) from 12psi to 16psi (approximately) from the midrange to redline. You can also "feel" this fluctuation as the car slows down and speeds up w/the boost level. I asked my local tuner who installed the software (Grand Prix Tuning) and he said that he's seen this problem in a few other TIP tranny B7's. I called up APR and they said that there is something wrong w/my car such as a boost or air leak causing this as the software/chip should work flawlessly!? My tuner said that it is something w/the auto tranny software trying to handle the increased boost/performance. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this...especially the auto tranny B7's. Thanks!

yeah .. that happened to me actually. I had a boost leak. got that fixed and it almost went away. I had the MT6 software on it thought. I just got reflashed to the CVT software and the car feels really good. If the issue continues ill prob call apr. but so far so good.

so the shop had installed the MT6 version of the software instead of the CVT version?
didn't know the programs were tranny-specific.
how can we find out what tranny version of program is installed?

Grand Prix is a con artist, he makes up everything. There are a couple guys here with bad experiences with him. It sounds normal the boost spikes.

I just got mine chipped last friday and they accidentally gave me the MT6 program, it gave us a check engine light, thats when they found out it was the wrong software and changed it.

hmmm....when I got mine done recently, I don't recall being asked if my car's a Tip or MT.
although I haven't had any issues such as check engine light afterward, I'd better confirm if they apply the right program.

btw, did you receive a printout of the ECU burn report from the shop?

Agree...I got Revo Stage 2 , and i def felt the car had to adapt, esp after you do more mods..I peak at 21psi, Hold 18

well normally the shop would install what is right for you car. This time around they installed what would work *better* ... and it did for like 3 weeks ..it felt good .. but then the issues started... first it was a boost leak and I figured it was that because the car was holding about 3psi of boost less throughout the rpm range and would max boost at 19 to 20 and hold about 15ish. after the leak was fixed it spiked up to 22psi and stays steady around 15 to 18 psi at WOT through the upper rpm range. Before it would spike nasty at WOT. it would flux between 9 to 14psi ... it looked like my boost gauge was playing ping pong lol . The last time I had gotten re-flashed there wasn't a CVT program out from what I knew just a TIP and MT6. I called APR today and asked if there was any updates. I spoke with Andy and he stated that there was some revisions and the best thing to do was to upload the most current file and to use the CVT program that was avail for my car. So I got it re-flashed today and so far the car feels great! it actually pulls harder in the mid rpm range now than it did b4.

I am sure there is a reason for having tranny specific programs and I doubt its because a certain tranny can't hang or anything like that ... it looks like it has more to with the engines different reactions to the different gearing from the different trannys. I hope you guys understand what I am trying to say but if not i can try to re-explain myself

I think you guys are misunderstanding......I'm not talking about the normal boost spike which then settles down as the rpms increase towards redline (due to the small turbine housing not being able to flow enough exhaust gases aka "backpressure") I'm talking about a fast/rapid increase and decrease of boost pressure AFTER the turbo spools and you get that boost spike common w/a small or fast spooling turbo.

I'll try and give an example so you guys can picture it........I go WOT in 1st@3000rpms, hit 20-21psi which tapers nicely to 15psi by redline. I stay WOT and shift at redline in each gear until the later gears which are longer and there is more of a load on the turbo/engine. In the later gears I'll get a fast/rapid rise and fall of the boost from 12-16psi over and over again till I shift or hit redline. This happens AFTER the initial boost spike. Like I stated earlier...the boost should spike and then GRADUALLY taper off as you approach redline.

Since you are familiar w/Grand Prix, do you have another reputable shop I could take my car to get looked at? I'm thinking about getting rid of the APR software and go w/GIAC or Revo...

wow, can't believe I haven't been on these forums in quite some time...LOL..Anyway, I was working with Mike@APR who was extremely helpful as we tried to diagnose my issue. He agreed with me when I did a ton of logging for him with my Vag-Com that my issue was NOT NORMAL. He told me he's never seen this issue and that my car was the FIRST one ever that he knew of that had this problem. We couldn't really figure it out and I just gave up....Mike/APR issued me a refund and Grand Prix Tuning reflashed my ecu back to stock.

To OP: I had the same issue to which APR didnt want to help no matter how many times I called. I also know a few of my friends who had it and could never figure out what it was. APR simply told us it was a software glitch. Well the way I solved it was by changing to REVO. Never had the issue again, end of story.

thx for the info..I was going to try a GIAC flash way back last yr. to actually see if it was my car or APR's tune/software, but I just ended up giving my G/F the audi so I'm not going to be getting a performance "flash" anytime soon...I now have a 550whp+ Lancer Evolution 8 running on E85. Puts a smile on my face every time I go WOT!

I have the same issues, but don't have access to a vag-com to do any logging. *sigh*
