Blown DV or Turbo issues?

Hey guys... I've got a quick question. I had my car reprogrammed at REVO about a month ago and I've got a forge DV on order but last night when I pulled in my driveway I noticed a high pitched noise at idle... Sounded like it was coming from the turbo. Then this morning my check engine light is on.

I knew the diverter valve was gonna go but i'm not sure if thats what happened or if the turbo is having problems. I only ask cause a few days ago I shut the car off and it sounded like the turbo was squeeling for a second after I killed the ignition.

So my question is: Should I take it into the dealer and ask them whats up or wait for my new DV? I don't really have time to diagnose it myself as i'm working 14 hours a day all week.

whats going on man, i'm a tech at a audi dealer here in florida. we see the same problem your having 2-3 times a day. not a big deal. the high pitched noise your hearing is the crankcase breather valve coming apart. open the hood and take off the cover over the engine and you will see a black vavle mounted to the valve cover. if you have brake cleaner spray that valve and the rpm's should increase if it's coming apart. if not another way to tell is to have the car running and try to open the oil cap. if you take it off easily that may not be the problem. if you can hardly pull the oil cap off then the breather valve is faulty. your dealer can take care of this takes only about 5-10 minutes to change and clear the faults. if you have any questions pm me and let me know. good luck

and don't expect your diverter valve to tear just because you're chipped. I've had APR93 for 7 months now, drive my car daily, and drive it HARD and my oem dv is still fine. Everyone is just superstitious, unless I have some diverter valve blessed by god or something that is indestructible haha

yeah, we see alot of the diver valves going bad too. some of them are torn or ripped and others just totally come apart. if you have vag-com or know somebody who does the fault you'll get for the dv is "charge pressure control-negative deviation" and the fault for the breather valve you'll have a bunch, random misfires, intake system air leak, and possibly some fuel trim faults.don't worry about replacing the dv unless you already ordered it. i would just wait and see if the stock one f's up or not. unless you just really want an aftermarket one.

b.t.w. if you take your car to the dealer (which you should to take care of the noise) there is a recall out right now that re-writes the ecm to keep the intake flap open all the time. this is gonna wipe out your tune so check with where you got the tune and make sure they'll reflash it again for you. if they don't reflash for free then double check with your service advisor if your car needs the recall or not and if it does you have the option of not doing the recall.

So I only had a few minutes to play with it this morning but it definitely seems like its the crankcake breather. I took the oil cap off and it was a little tough to get off and as soon as I did the engine started running rough and the high pitched noise got louder and with the cover off it definitely sounds like its coming from that valve.

I scheduled an appointment for next friday... Thanks for all your help guys.

Hopefully they don't re-flash :(

sounds good man, they'll take care of it at the dealer for you.

as far as that recall goes there isn't any real benefit unless you have a check engine light due to the intake flap being faulty. in my opinion that flap is really useless. you can't feel any difference with a 2.0 that has it working or if the recall has been done and the intake flap is always open, just a waste of space really.

the new 2.0 coming out is gonna be badass, has variable valve lift kinda like v-tec. should be pretty sweet

Are you planning on changing your software to the 'stock' mode with the Revo, or going in fully chipped?

RichTJ99 - I'm already chipped and it's just chipped... I didn't get the option to switch to stock. The dealer I went to said he didn't have that so he'll reflash me free anytime... I just have to drive 3 hours to get to him [O_O]

It looks like then "new" Audi valve control system is more like BMW's VANOS than Honda's Vtec or i-Vtec.
VANOS is variable across the rev band whereas Vtec has pre-assigned cam profiles that come on at certain rpm's.
It's better than Vtec/i-Vtec.

BMW beat Audi to variable valve lift and turbo, and their Valvetronic is basass.

yeah, audi isn't the first one to come up with varible valve timing. and yes bimmer did come out with it before audi. but have you ever seen/work on the bmw crap. it's HUGE,BULKY and you practically have to have designed the system to work on it in my opinion. i guess we will see how the audi system does with the new cars. should kick ass.

the new 2.0 is gonan be in the 2009 a4. the b9. which is pretty much a 4 door a5 but it looks really badass.
