I'm torn...What do you guys think?

New poster, but I have lurked for quite sometime on this board.

I am in the market for a new Daily driver, and have been looking at different cars/SUV's as viable options.

Yesterday, a good friend of mine called me up and said a friend at work is selling his 2003 Audi A4 3.0 6sp quattro. The car is in immaculate condition(he says), silver, s-line body kit and wheels, aftermarket swaybars, short shifter(which the owner says he wants to take if sold) and that is about it. It has had the timing belt and water pump just replaced, brakes, all major service was just done on the car basically.

The present owner is an Audi technician who works with my friend, and he did all of the work. NOW, to what has me on the fence....the car has 90k mi on it. I spoke with my friend, and he says he would buy the car, but he can't move his Boxster, and doesn't want another car payment. He will handle all the service on the car for me if I do pick it up, and he will order all the parts for me. The guy wants $14.5k for the car.

What do you guys think? Friend says it can go for another 80k mi if I take care of it.

I think you should buy it maybe see if he will go a little lower on the price but that sounds like a good car plus if the guy is an Audi Technician you know it was well taken care of. It will go another 80k easy. my buddy has a 2000 A4 2.8 manual and he has 150k runs great and still drives it.

He's obviously going to tell you it can go for another 80k, he's trying to make a sale.

Aside from that, I'm sure the car is super clean as an Audi tech is probably one of the few people I'd actually buy a used car from.

That said... 90k is too much for me. Granted, he'll handle all the service HE CAN HANDLE, but you'll still have to fork over parts for things that break/wear out.

Dealer are prices are certainly better than retail, but remember, even dealer pricing on an Audi is pretty expensive.

Personally, I'd stay away from a car with 90k...but thats just me.

Agree, i got my car at 25k and now have 85 and she pulls just as good and even better now since i got my torque converter replaced!

14.5 is too much, but it sounds like a solid car. Youll love it, the miles arent too much, if you take care of the car it takes care of you

That is how I feel. I take very good care of all of my vehicles, and I am overly cautious on all of them. So if the car is in great shape now, I HOPE it can go the distance without any catastrophes. It is just taking some convincing to get past the miles.

He also said he is getting around 20mph on the street, and 25 on the highway. Accurate?

Anyone have any suggestions on a price to throw this guy?

The Gas mileage is accurate, its what i get and i have an auto plus it depends on how you drive. HARDCORE or CHILL

That mileage is way to high for that price, never settle or jump into a car before shopping around. Plus if you want to mod there isn't much options for the 3.0 unless you wanna do the PES supercharger. I paid 15k out the door for my '03 back in August of last year and it had 52k miles. My car is extremely clean as I am very picky. Jump on autotrader real quick and you will find the same year A4's with lower miles selling for prices of $13500-16500. I promise you.

So you'd rather have 45,000 more miles and pay 1.5 grand more for a quattro? That was one I picked just for reference, my search brought up 12 cars, all under 65kmiles and all under 15grand. And all within 50 miles of his area.

Oh I knew the price was way to much for the mileage on the car. I just wanted to get some opinions of others outside my circle of friends, as that always weighs on others opinions.

I am actually shopping around right now. I bought an autotrader today, and have been hunting around online for most of the day. The 3.0 is perfect for me in the fact that it does not have a lot of aftermarket support. I have a mod "problem", so something with a minimized amount of mods is good ha. The reason I am buying another car is because the mods got out of control on my last vehicle, and it's now a weekend only.

I am focusing on gas mileage for this vehicle. The extent of the mods will probably be wheels, and that is it, lowering if I think it needs it.

My budget is probably 15k, but anything below that in good shape with good mileage is game on. I'd rather have more money for the weekend toy, and not sink all my money into a payment for the Audi.
