Quite a few allroad 4.2s on the boards, mine included. Most have the full body paint scheme.

In stock form the 4.2 is a torque monster, just plain smooth. However a modded 2.7 will kick a 4.2's buns. I got the 4.2 to tow my boat. Still adding an APR chip to the 4.2, unlike in most normally aspirated cars, really makes you stand up and take notice.

    Re: Allroad 4.2 ??

4.2s were only available 2004+, not 2003. Just picked my 2005 up a couple months ago. A chipped 4.2 should be able to keep up with a chipped 2.7T. Chipped 4.2 would be 340hp/302tq on 91 octane or 352hp/312tq on 93 octane, chipped 2.7T would be 307hp/366tq on 91 octane and 318hp/382tq on 93 octane. But, a lot depends on the curves and how quickly the majority of the hp and tq are achieved and sustained. It would be interesting to hear a fair comparison. Although the chipped 2.7T would have substantially more peak torque, the chipped 4.2 would have substantially more HP and I would guess that the 4.2's torque curve would be somewhat more responsive and make up for the lack of peak torque.

I doubt a 4.2 would net 40+ hp from a chip more like 5-10. Even still 4.2s are nose heavy with not enough torque.

Well, you'll have to ask APR that, as they make that claim and have a pretty strong reputation.

But, I traded in my A6 2.7T w/ the GIAC X Chip for my allroad 4.2. No question the chipped 2.7T had gobs more torque than my non-chipped 4.2, but with the turbo lag it didn't come on immediately. The 4.2 has what I would consider to be a ton of low end torque to get you going. Haven't driven it chipped, but if gas prices ever come back down again I'll be getting the chip in there and then will have a better feel for the comparison. As far as your nose heavy comparison, not sure if you've driven both, but I can't tell any difference between my A6 2.7T and my allroad 4.2 as far as weight distribution.

If all of that is the case, whats the numbers on the 2.7t A6 vs. my 4.2 S6 (chipped of course)?

We didn't get the 4.2 in Canada however a guy at my office had one imported from the USA. He probably has the only one in Canada. Very nice machine.

How's the gas milage in the 4.2? Now looking for one. I know they state it when you look at a sticker price, but i'm talking realisticly. How much would it cost me to fill up a week. I drive over 120km a day. Love my avant but its slow, Hense the term "slow wagon"
My friend has the W8 passat wagon with giac chip and that thing is fast!

    Re: Allroad 4.2 ??

I get about 16/17 mpg on my 4.2. In my chipped A6 2.7T I was getting about 17-18 mpg, so I'd say it is about 1 mpg worse than a 2.7T. Either way, they both stink as far as mileage. I am running my 4.2 on mid-grade gas, while in my chipped 2.7T I was using premium grade gas.
