    Valeo E-code question.....*pics added*

    So....on the Valeo S4 e-codes:

I know the hole in the bottom is where the OEM balast would go. But what if you are using an aftermarket HID setup and the ballast doesnt fit into the opening? What do you use to close-up the huge opening??

The OEM kit is only $270 from hidconcept, works great and fits perfectly in there. If you haven't already bought I would just get that.

I have the OEM kit in mine, and I love it works perfectly and looks like it came that way from that factory.

    Re: Valeo E-code question.....

I had the same problem when I switched from RS6 ballasts in halogen housings to S4 housings where those ballasts just didn't fit. I bought an oe set of S4 ballasts, ignitors, and bulbs and used them to seal the holes. My intention was and still is to eventually run the high beams with the S4 stuff and add a 50-55w 4300k low beam setup. Mega lighting.

    Re: Valeo E-code question.....

The other option is to cut some plastic and seal it in place but that is kinda hokey. I tried it before buying the S4 electronics and it just didn't work well for me. I used plastic similar to milk jugs and sealed it with RTV but some of the RTV didn't set and got real messy.

Hmmm. I really want a 55 watt kit....so OEM is a no-go. Looks like I need to do more research.

This link shows the different ballast types. You need the 5GL style.

    Like this .

I think I paid about 200 for the ballasts and ignitors.

My car came with two piece headlights....so I cant make comparisons to those. I'm currently running Halogen E-codes with xenons retrofitted on. The new Xenon E-codes have a large hole on the bottom of them where the ballast mounts. This hole leads directly into the housing. My question is:

If one decided to not go the OEM route and buys aftermarket HID's (which have a ballast that are shaped differently than OEM) what covers up this huge (maybe 4 inch X 3 inch) hole?? I think Onemoremile is the only one that understands what I'm saying.

    Re: Valeo E-code question.....

just cover it up. all HID headlight housings come like that w/ the hole for the ballasts.
i think it would be better for you to get the 55w ballasts instead of going for oem ballasts that came w/ the B5. there really is a stark difference in the performance and you'll prolly be regretting/thinking about them after you've gone the oem route.

you can get pieces of plastic from home depot or somewhere, and then bond it to the bottom where the hole is.

I'd just roll on down to homo depot, buy a piece of thin gauge metal, cut it out with aviation shears, drill some holes and seal with silicone or similar. You could even use lexan that they sell there if it's thick enough.

i had some formica laying around that i cut up, spray painted, and drilled some holes in for zip ties. i sealed it in with caulk

it was a real tight fit underneath, i ended up removing one set of zip ties.

Last time I bought some it was near chain link fence/gate hardware on a back wall somewhere, IIRC. But they had pieces from 1/16 to about 3/8 thickness in sizes all smaller than 4'x4'. You could always phone them up and ask. I've seen it at other hardware stores also, Lowes etc. I've also seen solid (opaque) colored acrylic in larger sheets, but lexan would be better as it's more flexible.
