    ***Humming Noise... probably fuel pump***

So today after class i start my car up and for the very first time since i've owned it (mid February), it seems the fuel pump is making a humming noise that doesn't go away. It went on and off on my trip home (about 5 miles), but was on for a majority of the trip (maybe stopping for about 2 of those miles, and coming back on close to home).

I did some searching and saw the threads saying that the people took their cars to the dealer and replace their fuel pumps under warranty. I'm at 52,2xx right now so that won't work, and i noticed that someone said if not under warranty it would have ran them about $1,000. I found out that a new pump from audi (it's a genuine audi part) is about $375 so i will probably have one ordered before the day is up.

I'm curious if any of you have ran into this problem and fixed it yourself. I assume i don't need anything more than the pump and a new filter.

    Thanks,

    Ian

Re: ***Humming Noise... probably fuel pump***

Talked to the Audi service manager a bit about it (I was lucky to have it happen under warranty) and he said that it was under the back driver's side seat. Not sure how hard it is, but I was at the dealer for a good three hours waiting for them to get it done. The same exact thing happened to me, humming and assumed correctly it was a fuel pump considering the location of the sound.

Can't imagine it is that easy of a procedure, but to save the $300-400 dollar labor charge may be a worthwhile job to attack yourself. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.
