    Diagnose a Bad Ballast?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys, more problems.
I ordered Bulbs for my car, because one was dead.
So i get the bulbs and I put them in, The one that was blown is still out.
So now Im more frustrated than Ever before, because Im sure I will have to Buy a new ignitor or something else that will cost and arm and a leg.
Where should I go from here?
Audi Dealer and have them Diagnose the Headlight dilema?
Try to find the other ignitor and put it to the "bad" headlight and see if it really is the ignitor?
    OPEN to suggestions.
    HELP!

    Re: Diagnose a Bad Ballast?

Funniest thing happened to me. I cracked the driver's side headlight assembly (minor accident) and continued to drive it the way it was. One day we had some serious rain and the light bulb got fried from water leaking into the housing (or so i thought!). A couple days later I scanned and cleared my codes and it immediately started working again. Coincidence?

i have similar problems, my driver side will flicker and then go out on me. I turn it off and then turn back on it works. So intermiddent that it sometimes it will flicker but not go out for days and sometimes it will go out immediately and when i try the on/off it will either work or piss me off. Im going to open the ballast and see if it has any corrosion inside and see if i can clean it , if not im going to order a new ballast.

Did you check the fuse? Each light is individually fused. My passenger side low beam keeps popping its fuse. I'm going to check for a short and if I can't find it then look at swapping ballasts with the driver side to confirm it is a bad ballast. If the ballast is on its way out I'm going to order the 55W HID upgrade kit. It's $190 and comes with two new bulbs, two new ballasts and a lifetime warranty on everything.

The fuse blew for a reason. You might want to hang on to the new ballast just to rule out a possible short. My fuse will last 1-2 days leading me to believe it is a short. If the ballast was failing I would think it would be pretty consistent and happen sooner.
