    Which Optima battery?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Battery is on its way out. Thanks to some of your posts, I decided on an Optima. Now, I found some good info on the Optima RedTops, especially the post by RxRep here - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ghlight=optima

But, I want to be sure that I get the right one for my B5 S4. Anyone know which RedTop is the best fit for our B5 S4s? From what I understand, they have 75-25, 25, 75-35, and 35. Gotta pick one up today so any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!!

I use the Odyssey PC925MJT; fits in the stock location and saved about 20 pounds compared to stock. You will need to buy a cheap battery bracket from your local parts store to hold it in place. People have used the even smaller/lighter 680 battery but a little too weak IMO.

Depending on your average commute time and driving condition with the car, in conjuction with the lower temp. After-Run pump sensor switch modification, you may run a greater risk of killing the light weight battery prematurely and subsequently, the alternator as well.

I drive one day a week for about an hour or two, and I have the upgraded after-run sensor mod.

I drive the car about one day per week. Should I go with the yellow top? Also, where did u get the battery from? I stopped in to Pep Boys today and they told me they didn't have any optimas for my car (2001 S4).

The problem tends to arise with people who drives on multiple short trips during the day that are just long enough to heat the coolant temp to activate the after-run system after the car is shut off. Think of it like this, the battery is being drained with repeat activation of the system but not enough time to recharge the battery properly with each activation.

In your case, even know you only use your car once every 7 days, you are still charging the battery with your 1-2 hrs drive with the ARP system activating only once.

Not sure about AZ, but do a search on AW about this as this issue has been discussed and reported many times already.

uhm yah they have a point.. the optima doesnt fit correctly in our battery trays. i just put mine in and did away with the locking mechanism.
yellowtop is made for deep cycle -aka--you can drain it almost empty many times without ruining it.

So, what do I need to ask for? Is there a specific (model #) optima yellow top that I should ask for?

You should be fine with either RedTop or the YellowTop. Key thing is that you need reverse terminals to fit the battery in properly, either a 34R or a Group 35 of the Optima RedTop. but they will all require aftermarket bracket or strap with some creativity to anchor them down.

    Re: New Battery Recommendations?

Odyssey PC925 (larger reserve capacity than PC680, more practical for daily driver)

OK, what's the difference between the 34R and the Group 35? They have them both on Amazon-
Optima Batteries OPT 34R 800R Reverse Terminal Starting Top Post Battery, Red Top for $177 &
Optima Batteries OPT 35 Group 35 Top Post Battery, Red Top for $141

Only the 34R says "reverse terminal". If both of these work, which one is better?

    Thanks.
