    B5 Control Arms

Hey folks, been a while since i have been on here but heres a quick question for you.

My front upper rear control arm (passenger side - uk) bushing is gone and am sure that if i replace it another one will pop so am thinking of lifting a full set from fleebay, seen a few people from different audi sites speak highly off them for the money so anyone got them in, what they think or should i just replace the one arm for now as the cars due for MOT in Aug 2009 so i could replace the entire control arm set then.

I just want to make sure that these kits with 8parts do both side of the car.

    cheers all

    Re: B5 Control Arms

If you believe that you are going to do the all eventually you might as well just do it now. The 8 arm sets do all four arms on both sides. Also do the tie rod ends and sway bar links. There are kits that include those and the hardware too. Some of the bolts often get destroyed or mangled during removal and it really helps to have a new set.

I've had a couple uppers in there for a year now. They were $99 shipped for all four uppers. I think the seller was fcp-groton. The guy had a B5 and sold a ton of them without incident.

    Re: B5 Control Arms

I just had a full kit from FCP Groton put in a few weeks backs, cost about $350 w/ shipping. I have to wait to pass judgment as there's a curve in my steering rack that shouldn't be there and it's causing a ton of understeer on my front left wheel. But they're certainly pretty. ^,^

Also, ebay is essentially just a whole seller. The fact that a product is on ebay doesn't denounce it's quality. I guarantee every part anyone has ever put into their car on this site can be found on Ebay; and if it can't, you can simply PM a vendor and ask them to fab it for you, because that's how ebay works... Seriously, look at the vendors on Ebay, you'll notice that they're very familiar names. ^,^ FCP Groton, for example, is no small fish. They do most of their business elsewhere, they just happen to sell a few products on Ebay...

    Re: B5 Control Arms

Be careful when installing the lower line of eBay control arms... I ran into to different problems when installing mine...

The lower control arms (ones that attach to the strut) had the wrong bushing installed in them... The hole was too small to attach to the subframe. The bolt wouldn't go in, period. I had to drill out the hole to accept the bolt and then installed them. Also, the lower control arms that have the ball joint that go DOWN into the spindle, had some regular nuts come with them. They bottomed out on the ball joint before they even hit the spindle so they were loose... Had to re-use the old nuts... Other than that... Few thousand miles on them so far and they are doing great! Wish I had pictures to help explain what I am talking about...

Uppers were Febi and the lowers were from FCP... I had a problem with the lowers... Like I said, quality peice so far but not really down for doing "extra work" and finding "extra parts" to make it fit 100%

    Re: B5 Control Arms

If there is anyone that just needs some parts and does not want to buy the full set, I have the passenger side uppers (2) and the sway bar end links. Both items are new and still in the package.

PM me for pricing. Sorry for the thread jack so I will get it back on subject.

I have ordered two sets of ebay control arms with no problems what so ever. The first set I bought from DP (deutscheparts) which is a German manufacture that makes good quality parts and they have been on the car for over a year with no problems. The second set I bought was from the same company. I was hit and didn't know the extent of the damage so I bought another full set but ended up only using the two lower control arms on the passenger side which were of the same quality as the first set.

    Re: B5 Control Arms

i would recomend febi over meyle. i had two control arms replaced right after i bought the car with meyles and then replaced the rest a year later with febi. after 4 years the meyles went bad and the febi's are still kicking.

    Re: B5 Control Arms

I had the big expensive set from ECS and have had to replace a few of those. If I'm going to have to deal with short lived parts they might as well represent a lesser expense.

I did meyles and lowers are bad (squeaking) again. I think the lowers just take a beating with the weather or the seals just suck. I'm ready to do the full kit as well with tre and sway bar links but am unsure if the meyles are worth the extra money. I feel like the ridiculously low price of deutschparts reflects the quality.
I ordered coils from them and 3/4 were good. They wanted me to pay shipping both ways to send me a new coil. The bad one never worked in the first place.
Be careful. Customer service does count for the cheap ass prices for some of them. The German snob in me wants to stay with meyle but might go febi.

I have the fcp-groton s4 upgrade installed. No problems at all with install, everything seems fine. But I think my right tie rod is on the way out already. But still good for price.
