    Ecode install Q's

Alright so I picked up some ecodes from the Classified section and I tried installing them and ran into some problems. I tried searching but I couldn’t find anything related to this issue. If you look at the pictures below you will see the wire on both my stock headlight and the ecode headlight that provides power to the Ballast. As you can see the wires are on different locations on the harness. So I tried it out anyways and when I start the car up I get a “Left Dipped Headlight” error. Can this be related to the wire’s? Unfortunately when I was moving everything back into the stock headlight I dropped the light and now have to buy a new one, so I don’t know if the headlight went bad during the transfer.

and I need to buy a new bulb, what do I need to buy and can i buy these at autozone?

Thanks for all your help guys! (see below for car info if needed)

I don't believe Autozone sells HID bulbs. I would buy at an OEM reseller online, but definitely don't buy through the dealer, as they charge upwards of $200 a bulb!

Wow that was a expensive mistake. Any one have any links for a good place to buy the bulb?

Edit: Thanks EUROaleksey for the link

    Re: Ecode install Q's

Xenonpros doesn't even sell D1S bulbs.

It is very hard to find Osram D1S bulbs (philips is a little easier to find). A quick search, and the cheapest I could find a NEW Osram D1S bulb, was ~$140, so I'm guessing it will be well over $200 at the dealership.

There are used ones on ebay for ~70, but then it wouldn't match your other bulb because the old one will be colorshifted to me more blue (this happens about 500 hours runtime on a bulb). I could only find two places that sold these outside of ebay.

Here is the link to the place I would it cheapest: CLICK

D1S bulbs are more expensive than D2S bulbs due to the built in igniter.

Thank you very much. These ecodes keep getting more expensive by the minute.

Regarding the different ballast power supply connectors, assuming you have two of each type, all you need to do is swap the connectors. Use a dulled needle, and carefully disengage the clip inside each terminal slot to allow the wire terminal to be removed from the connectors. Do the red wires then the brown wires or vise versa. Capicse?

Exactly, but you would need to buy two, since the output from the bulbs does look a tad bit different.

I wouldn't want to run one Osram, and one Philips at the same time unless absolutely necessary.

Have used both I do prefer Philips though.

you should always replace both at the same time, that goes for all bulbs...its just a rule of thumb

you have 5G ballasts and 5GL are what the ecodes use. I am in the same boat but don't want to mess with wires. I will probably get a set of ballasts (190) from Akinaboy for my fix so i can switch back later with ease. (when i sell)

Lol and I would be part of the 99% anal, so I'm going to have to get two most likely.

Well if both the bulbs are brand new and he breaks one before using it, then he could just replace one.

I think that is the case that he is in.

Nope I'm using the bulbs from my stock xenon's, but I took care of ordering the bulbs. Now I just need to fix my wires and I'll be good to go.

any recommendations on a good way to smooth out and get rid of the "dimples" (can't think of a better word) on the headlights?
